The Bunny Hutch |
||
The bunny hutch is not actually for earthly rabbits. In fact the people who inhabit it are not 'rabbits' nor from earth at all! As part of a cross-nexus education program, a number of half and quarter breed Usagi Shimai (the rabbit sisterhood) from the world of Sean's travels. Since their lands were destroyed a century before Sean's arrival, and the bulk of the male Usagi killed or sent off to slavery in distant lands, most of the younger Shimai chose human or demi-human partners. In the long run it didn't make much difference: the colorations of the Usagi were practically the only thing to change with these half breed children. Now, perhaps a score of years later, there are numerous Usagi needing training, education and yes, dragon companions. It's almost expected that many of the local Usagi bond dragons to keep their lands safe - they border the city of Gelgela, where Sean reigns as queen with her husband the necromancer Sapadt. They decreed that the Usagi who desired it, would become their border guard, and it is with this in mind that many of the Hutch's inhabitants are trained and educated. The Hutch is a misnomer - it doesn't look anything like a rabbit hutch, nor is it underground. It's merely a nice condo complex in the heart of Crescent City's old towne. Like many off-world developments, it has its share of protesters and complaints. But by and large the fact that nearly all Usagi have some form of innate magic power, and they're all adorable fuzzy bunny people, have let them escape serious harm. |

The inhabitants of the Hutch are generally quite young, in terms of Usagi lifespan. Many Usagi halfbreeds can live up to one hundred fifty years, and they're in their early to mid teens. All of them are students at Carramba High. |
