STEP ONE! ORIGIN! The Origin of a Hero is very important in determining the kind of powers, abilities, skills and appearance they will have. There are FIVE origins available at this time. Magical, Mentalist, Mundane, Muscle and Mutant. Each of these may have 'overflow' to other Origin types in terms of powers or skills, but generally speaking a Mentalist will have more smarts than a Muscle origin, and a Magical character may be able to perform stunning feats that the Mundane characters don't even believe are possible. (Watch me pull a rabbit outta this hat!) |

Once you know your Hero's Origin, make notes of which bonuses and penalties they may have to their Stats. This will come into play soon. You might have a good idea of what you want your Hero to do, already, but keep reading because the Stats are quite important.
STATS Stats are measures of physical, social and mental abilities and are on a 1 to 10 scale (described Nex). |

STAT | Description/Use | Examples |
![]() |
Strength is a measure of the physical ability to lift, break, bend, or otherwise use muscles. Typically it's good for breaking down doors, throwing cars, punching out bad guys and fighting. | Superman is a great Strength user. |
![]() |
Stamina is the level of health and endurance that a Hero has. To continue trying to break something, run for a long distance, swim, or do things for more than a brief period. It also measures the ability to fight off disease or poison. | Wolverine keeps coming back from the dead... |
![]() |
Dexterity is a level of manual manipulation with fingers, toes, or whatever else is used to fiddle with small objects like keyboard keys, twist ties, lockpicks, or handwriting/painting tools. Dexterity is primarily in use by people who draw, type a lot, or assemble small items like computer chips, tailoring or equipment. | Catwoman is a great burglar, and can use her fingers to open most locks. |
![]() |
Agility is the body's ability to move and perform acrobatic motions. Kicking, dodging, rolling or tumbling, jumping and balance all require Agility. | Jackie Chan is a fantastic dodger! His Agility is way above normal! |
![]() |
Intellect is the raw brain ability to think and work out problems without resorting to book learning. Some people can simply out-think others, inventing clever traps or confusing them with words. | Reed Richards is a great example of a very intelligent person - though his Education is very high too. |
![]() |
Education represents a Hero's actual schooling. Books can teach quite a lot, but experience is the best thing in the field. College education or specific trade training give many Heroes an edge. | Lex Luthor is a brilliant Intellect, but his Education is also remarkable enough that he can beat many Heroes. |
![]() |
Charm is an emotional or empathic ability to be seen as a person someone else wants to help, like or even fall in love with. Certain people don't have to be pretty to be charming. | Gambit of the X Men is a very charming individual, he says a few words in his Cajun drawl and women swoon. |
![]() |
Appearance is the physical level of beauty for a Hero. Some people can be striking or odd looking while at the same time being attractive. Also includes the way the Hero dresses, smells or sounds. | Wonder Woman is by all counts a perfectly attractive person - she stands in just the right pose, hair is always just right, and has a commanding look to her. |
![]() |
Presence is a measure of the impact that a Hero has on others, just by showing up. Their poise, menacing glare, tiny sneer or smile, or just the way they move among people. | Emma Frost, the White Queen, is a perfect example of someone with a lot of Presence. With a tilt of her heaad, she can intimidate. |
![]() |
The internal level of desire to act, or the ability to perform under stress. A Hero needs a lot of courage, but not everyone can muster it in times of great need. | The Punisher is a very courageous (if a little skewed) character. He has little if any fear, and never shows it if he does. |
![]() |
Power is the raw strength of the Hero's magic, psionics, or other such non-skilled abilities. Their reserves of Power may be used when they are activating an ability for a long time. Compare to physical Stamina. | Green Lanterns use a limited resource of power stored in their Rings. Storm of the X Men becomes exhausted as she controls weather. |
![]() |
Skill reflects the non-psionic/magical abilities of the Hero. Anyone can have skills, while most people cannot use Powers. Any educated person has a number of skills to use daily. | Batman has taught himself many Martial, Social and Forensic skills, and uses them to round up bad guys. |
