My Character is filthy rich,
the envy of everyone around them
The best of the best, High Owners and High Holders fall into this category.
High Owners are
an extention of the Owner class, which are quite like Plantation owners.
They require a huge amount of land, but with it, they also have a large
number of Slaves to work on it. They may Bond, but rarely have more than
a handful of Bayaran working for them.
Usually High Owners are more heavily Bred than their Owner counterparts,
they are more focused and intense, and often compete directly with Suzerain
on land issues. High Owners have a lot of money, true, but it also goes
in and out of their hands more quickly than most. They run betting parlours,
steed races, hunting parks, all manner of high-cash income goes through
their lands. Transportation, shipping and other bulk-oriented industry
is also popular among High Owners.
High Owners hold political office, but not as often as High Holders do.
They are usually more concerned with what they themselves are doing, than
what others are.
How could a High Owner become a Dragon Master? They are heavily bred,
and that allows for a lot of Tunings to show up. They are able to have
a lot more land to use for their Dragons, as well as supply it to lower-status
Masters.
High Holders
are the cream of the crop. They own everything you see, from the building
to the mine to the entire mountain... High Holders must enter the political
arena, but they do not ever have to WIN.
High Holders inherit as much land as they buy and sell, usually keeping
family lines quite rich that way. Many High Holders have very interesting
jobs, such as artist, high-tech engineer, explorer, or modeling. But they
are also known for more mundane things like land management and feed for
animals.
High Holder children may select where their Inheritance is placed, so
they might select from among any of their parents (or relatives') lands
and Hold there. They are able to put up housing for Bonds or Free Workers,
getting an income from them.
High Holders usually have an easy time getting into a Political office,
however about 1/3 of them actually DIE while in office or wind up dead
after being elected... not a great track record. It's very cut-throat
out there!
What would a High Holder want with being a Dragon Master? Well, they have
a lot of time and money to blow on it. They can pay a Dragon Breeder to
make a special dragon for them, or even hold on to a bunch of Bayaran Dragon
Masters until they've paid their debts.
Items to remember for these Status:
HIGH OWNERS may hold anywhere from 600 to ??? Units of land.
They may Bond up to 40 people, but they Own far more than that. They may
Own practically any number of Slaves! (The High Owner character may start
with Slaves equal to their AGE in number!) They strive to keep this land
and their Holdings in prime condition, they are go-getters.
High Owners start as characters at age 18 to 23, and live around 150 to
240.
HIGH HOLDERS
are roughly the opposite, they must have at least 600 Units of land (anyone
with 600 or more must retitle to High Holder if they're not an Animal
or Dragon Master, or Breeder!) and they may have up to 40 Slaves go through
their finances per Year. Their Bonds are their income, though, they deal
with other people's money like crazy and often have up to 100 Bonds working
for them!
High Holders are experienced when they're starting, age 19 to 25. They
live around 160 to 270, getting the benefits of the rich life they lead
(or being assassinated early). |
