Dragon Masters of Zekira Character Creation

Status / Rank

Check over each option carefully, and note the information given at the bottom of the page

I'd like my Character to be specialized and have an education geared toward animals or Dragons, or higher education about Zekiran healing/breeding

The status of Animal Master, Dragon Master, Breeder or Dragon Breeder should be what you'd choose here.

Animal Masters are traditionally created by Breeders to take care of animals. Usually they work on farms, in Steed arenas, on hunting parks, or as exterminators or removal services. They can work with animals, their food, environments, toys for them, selling and buying them, breeding special kinds of them, deal with human (Zekiran) food production in butcher shops, race and breed Steeds... The list goes on.

Animal Masters usually have some kind of Psionics or mutation. This puts them at a disadvantage in normal society, especially if they have unusual looking features such as wings or scaley skin, tail or other animal feature. Remember that the more Psionic powers the character has, the more likely they are to have very odd or annoying mutations or disadvantages.

Anyone who has an Animal Tuned power (anything from being able to sense where an animal is nearby, to controlling a breed of animal, healing or hurting them with their mind, etc) of any strength, can become an Animal Master. Even Slaves can be Animal Masters if they suddenly develop powers accordingly.

This also follows for Dragon Masters. Animal and Dragon Masters are quite close in nature and powers. All Dragon Master powers spring from Animal-generic ones. So the same way that a Slave might turn out to have an Animal Tuning, they might also turn out to have a Dragon tuning later on!

Animal Masters work closely with Dragon masters. They usually provide land or food for the dragons, services like healing and tack, and housing. The two Status are virtually equal, however in times of Invasion, the Dragon Masters are given a bit more importance.

Dragon Masters are sometimes born into their Status, they're just as often a Slave to start as a High Holder. Those who are born into it are heavily Bred to be able to ride, control or help dragons in some way.

Being a Dragon Master to start is like being born into a family of woodworkers and obviously being expected to know how to choose woods, whittle and do carpentry. Dragon Masters are often educated together, no matter their ages, so it's possible to be in one 'class room' with a 60 year old Suzerain breaking into it, as a 12 year old Slave who just developed the ability to speak to dragons. There is no stigma attached to being another Status at the same time as a Dragon Master, and there is little reason to give up on a prior Status unless it's detrimental to them or impossible to keep up their finances.

Dragon Masters can Bond or Own but only at half the rate of Membayar or Owners. They also hold land but in larger amounts than either of those, because of the size of their dragons.

Dragon masters can specialize in certain functions of riding or care. About half the dragon masters ride into combat, whlle the other half takes care of the wounded or tends to other needs. It takes a truly experienced and able Master to command a full wing of Dragons.

Dragon masters are well respected, especially right now during an Invasion. When they are not needed, sometime in the future, they will all pretty much be able to retire in comfort. Let's hope they do a good job repelling the Aliens!

Dragon Breeders are one step up from Masters, but the main difference is that they usually do not come from the lowest Status, below Bonder. They must already be able to educate themselves in Breeding or Animal Mastery before getting into Dragon Breeding.

Dragon Breeding is very specific. There are those who specialize in health care for dragons of all kinds, then some who actually breed the dragons from egg to adult and send them to Mastery houses to get a Zekiran partner. Most are healers, then smaller numbers of specialists (1 type, broad 2 types, open 3 types) and then a tiny portion who like Breeders do, genetically engineer their own dragons.

Only about 30% of Dragon Breeders are purely that status. The other 70% add one of the other Status (from Membayar on up) and can hold land, bond, and own accordingly. Dragon Breeders can Bond more than normal, and Own as Owners.

Breeders are a picky lot. Just over half of all Breeders do nothing but their breeding jobs. The rest add another Status of Membayar or above, and continue to do whatever other work they had before hand.

Breeders are a divided lot. Some of them feel that they are far superior to all those around them because the job requires far more intelligence and style. Some of them say that Bred people are only good when they have no mutations. Still others have actually been created BY another Breeder, to BE a Breeder!

About half of all Breeders are actually Healers or Psych/Psionic healers of the mind. The rest are distributed in roughly equal parts to the following:
"Councilling" who are pretty much fertility clinic folk, making their money by telling people when the best time is to concieve, adding whatever they can to the chances.
"Brokering" who are rather like 'partner finders'. They are paid to find specific people who will be able to try their luck at breeding.
"Selection" breeders of this degree OWN the stock they create, even if the couple they choose are free. They deal a lot in slaves, and usually are not liked.
"Term" breeders take a feature and select for it, so they might become known for breeding a particular shade of skin, a bunch of four-armed mutants, or rarely animal tuned.
"Tuned" breeders have taken this above and made it their life. They select only for one thing, usually for a tuning such as telepathy, or animal senses, or now Dragon tunings. Animal Masters usually come from these Breeding clinics.
"
Genetic Engineers" or mad scientists. They are able to work with actual genetic code and can alter or create whatever their hearts desire. They own everything they make, no matter who donated...

Breeders are very hoidy-toidy about their work, and usually scam at parties for people they'd like to see Bred. Remember that breeding on Zekira is an honor, not a chore, and that "breeding does not equal love". They have this aspect down pat, that who one Breeds with and who one marries may be VERY different things.

Things to keep in mind for these Status

ANIMAL MASTERS may hold from 200 to 1000 land Units, a very flexible amount based on their needs. Some work the land and need a lot, some skip around so often following racing Steeds or show animals, that they can't keep up more than a small Holding. Animal Masters can Bond around 8 people, and Own around 6, give or take depending on their ability and needs. Animal Masters can run for offices, but rarely have the time.
Their starting age should be young, around 13 to 18. Their lifespans are 140 to around 250, a larger range than usual.

DRAGON MASTERS may hold from 400 to "however much" land, they have no upper limit of Units since they do not need to retitle if they own too much. They may Own and Bond up to 5 each, per year. (Meaning they can buy 5 Slaves, but for another, they'd have to sell one off).
Their starting age should be around 12 to 16, and their lifespan is from 120 to 220, since they are often out in the middle of danger.

DRAGON BREEDERS hold a large amount of land, from 400 to 999, and it's usually in large patches around the world depending on what style of Breeding they do. They can Bond up to 20 people, and Own 10. They are more likely to be holding a political office than Animal Masters or Dragon Masters because their time can be spent slowly on their work.
They start as characters around age 18 to 25, because their training in healing and machinery must delay their start. Their lifespan is around 130 to 250.

BREEDERS may hold 300 to 999 Units of land and may Bond or Own according to their other Status, or 20 Bonds, 10 Owned. Breeders often hold offices, though they are usually accustomed to holding ones which deal specifically with rights and priveledges. If they have another Status, it often coincides with their Breeding level:
Membayar - usually Healers, Councillor, Broker, Genetic Engineers
Owners - usually Psyche healers, Selection breeders
Suzerain - often Psyche, Brokers
Animal Master - most often Tuned (breeding more tuned!)
Dragon Master - often Healer, Tuned or Genetic Engineering
Dragon Breeder - usually Healer, Tuned or Genetic Engineering
High Owner - often Healer, Psyche healer, Genetic Engineer
High Holder - usually Healer, Term, Tuned or Genetic Engineer
Breeders start as characters around age 17 to 25, their Degree adds 1 year each. Their lifespan is around 150 to 250, give or take based on any shared Status.
