A pulse-breaking beat shattered the eardrums of several thousand party-goers. They had paid pretty well to hear a band they thought would rock their world - but they didn't realize that the rocking would extend quite as far as it did.

As it stood, the band was rather talented, and Lightshow liked them a lot. She'd played with them in the past, and they were the ones who brought her on board for this gig. It paid pretty well. She fell into her routine - that word was a misnomer because every performance was quite different from the next - and the crowd fell off it's seat.

Every beat brought a spatter of color to the air, thrown from Lightshow's head, neck and wrist bands. The bassline was aided by a wave of pixellated imagery spewed from the light-guitar she carried. The light-emitting belt at her narrow waist put out an undulating pass of spectral colors, while the bands at her knees flashed with the drums and cymbals.

All in all, Lightshow seemed to know what she was doing. The colors her fashion accessories could produce ran through infrared and up into the ultraviolet spectrums as well, but she didn't have them tuned for that range for this performance - the mostly humanoid audience just wouldn't have appreciated it.

And that was what it was all about, wasn't it? Their appreciation showed in a loud shower of praise every moment of every concert. No matter where she played, no matter how the music turned out, they usually wound up talking about her. And, of course, she loved it.

When the final strains of the last encore died away, and people were exhausted along with the band's repetoir of songs, Lightshow packed it in with them and headed to her rented transport. It galled her that they still couldn't quite afford a real live starship for her - if she could master the art of biological teleportation that would be great too. Because mechanical t-porting was excrutiatingly expensive, even more so than a top of the line star cruiser.

When she got back to her home world, it was three days later. The equivalent of a u-haul van was left behind at its rental station, and Lightshow stomped away to deposit her hard earned cash - and to shower, which she felt she needed badly.

In fact, she didn't much sweat or produce any kind of unpleasant odors. It was the smell of the crowd, the band, the sweat wafting from the mass of people at a concert. The smoky air, the press of an adoring crowd... And, the ride home of course, in a small, disgustingly confined space which had previously been occupied by something which had left a grey-green stain on the seat.

***

"That's the one you're talking about? It looks totally insane." Todd sighed and leaned against his dragon Tagarok. The orange-blue lashed his tail a bit.

I told you, she's right. The advertisement says she would even perform in the Vocorr areas of the galaxy, that is a good sign that she would be willing.

"Todd, what are you looking at?" Sara asked, and her red-violet dragon asked the same of Tagarok. Solo 2 gazed at the advertisement hologram hovering in front of her partner and she furrowed her eyebrows. "Todd, that is the tackiest creature I've seen yet. I mean, look at those bellbottoms!"

"I was looking a little higher up, myself," Todd muttered and ducked instinctively. Sara wasn't too fond of him burying his eyes in every alien's cleavage. She laughed, instead.

"I'll save that revenge for later. Searaun says that Tagarok wants to meet her. Why?" The liberation-player and singer twisted her hair around a finger.

"Because he says she's going to be a rider, but... I don't know either. I was thinking more about asking her to come with us on our Black Hole tour."

"That I can understand, but dragon riding? Her?"

Sara and Todd looked at their Hathian Rave dragons, and suddenly realized yet again, for about the bazillionth time, that they were riding dragons in deep space, playing illegal rock and roll music broadcast through black holes and rips in spacetime... They played with space music pirates, and were chased by a legion of badass nasties who thought music and creative outlets were evil.

They set about locating this Lightshow person.

***

"So... what's her real name, anyway?" Todd asked, as Sara tried to get into the network via her liberation. The creature behind the big chrome and glass desk looked at him like he was insane.

"Lightshow is her name." She glanced at her long, way-too-shiny nails.

"But light shows are what she does." Todd said, still unconvinced.

"It's her name, can't it be her name too? What's the matter with you people? You humans are so predictable. Can't handle a simple title-name combo?"

Todd heard Sara in the background mutter, "besides, they call us "solos" now, and we answer to that, what's the deal?" But he ignored her and continued arguing with the receptionist. He wondered why she was stalling.

"Look," Sara said, exhausting the possiblities of raiding the local computer network with her keyboard (it was working, but she was bored and there was nothing of terribly great interest on their network, it was a cheap, old system) and instead turning on the oddly bald woman. "We need to speak with her, her advertisement said she'd do Vocorr space shows."

At that, the greeny-tinted receptionist threw up her hands in disgust. "Ah, you people! I want you to just go, okay? We stopped doing those shows. Too much jail time involved."

"Which shows were those, Loya?" A husky voice came from a doorway, and Todd and Sara were extremely pleased to see the woman named Lightshow standing there. She didn't look any different from her hologram - pale flat-white skin, eyes as black as night, and what appeared to be a chrome outfit. The lights on her clothing were off at the moment, but they appeared to be a permanent part of her wardrobe. Her hair was slightly damp, but it was quite fluffy under its band of white.

"They wanna get you back in Vocorr space and I just toldem no." Loya said, looking at her boss with a superior flick of her eyebrow.

"Well, what if I want to go back to Vocorr? They need some shaking up." Lightshow shifted away from the wall, and she walked like she absolutely loved wearing her clothes. Todd was kind of enthralled. Lightshow stood nearly a foot taller than he was, placing her past 6'6" tall. He noticed that her shoes were huge platforms, though.

"So you'd come along, we would be able to pay you some, but..." Sara said, "you know how it is out there, I think."

Lightshow waved her hand and smiled, her black lips sharply drawing into a knowing laugh. "Oh honey, I know it. Those losers hate my crew. Maybe we could work in trade. I've got some info stacks you might want, and -"

"And would you be interested in bonding a dragon?" Todd blurted out, and Sara nearly died. It appeared that Tagarok was tired of the small talk. He busted through Todd's mind and yelled hard enough that Todd was forced to speak.

Lightshow stood mutely for a moment, her oddly tattooed facial markings making her look somewhere between pissed off and utterly confused.

"What?" She finally stated, and Loya seemed ready to echo that.

"Dragons," Sara said, glaring at Todd for a moment and tossed her head. "Come see. You'll like them. They certainly seem to think you're rider material." She returned to her glare, because this was not the time to be mentioning strange shit like this.

For the Braethas Raug flight! It was held and there are eggs! Saeraun bespoke to all of them, eager to see what was going to happen. She and her partner Tag weren't exactly search dragon material, but they enjoyed the feeling of knowing when a dragon rider was near.

Stunned, momentarily, Lightshow looked around at the pair of large, sharp dragons. Tagarok took that opportunity to start sniffing at her hair. Lightshow took a bit of a defensive posture, but then realized that the dragon wasn't doing anything more than mussing her hair and getting her all nervous.

"He's cute. What's he doing?" She asked.

"He's deciding if you're really worthy of standing for a dragon," Sara said, resigned to this. Searaun agreed, this odd pale woman was supposed to come with them. They'd barely learned how to teleport and move through space, and they already had heard of a big hatching.

Rainbows. There will be rainbows, I am sure of it, and LOOK at her!! Searaun demanded, and Sara chuckled.

"It'd be at Cathair Fionabhainn, on Danach. Have you been there?" Todd asked, and Lightshow nodded.

"Once or twice. A strange place, kinda dangerous, two suns?"

Sara nodded, "eternal twilight. It's pretty cool."

Meanwhile, the dragons had had their way with Lightshow's aura or however else they determined her worth, and nudged Todd.

"They're convinced," Todd said. "Look, you don't have to go if you don't want to, but... We were really surprised by our little bundles of trouble."

"... They're really neat," Lightshow said. "And, they talk. That's cool. Loya won't like it. If I had a talking dragon I could ride into shows... ohhhhh yeah." She gave of a long, evil grin. "She'd totally be out of a job. I could contract and get there and ... hee!"

She danced around with glee for a moment, and then sobered up. "But you'd still have to pay me for a show. That doesn't change."

"... Sure!" Todd laughed. Their dragons set off to Danach, laden with a new passenger and her colorful gear.

(had been lightshow2.htm)

At long last, after a considerable wait and a dangerous turn of events at the Cathair, it looked like the eggs were about to hatch. Well, a number of them anyway, many seemed like they were not going to break open at this moment.

Lightshow followed the leader of the Cathair onto the sands, and was humming a tune she'd heard a long time before. At least no one complained about that - the dragons around were humming themselves into a tizzy.

The first hatchling of the day was apparently a big, importantly ranked female. Lightshow made a note of that. Hmn. She wondered, what in the world was she getting into now? Would this all really turn out right?

Of course it would. When a bunch of dragonets bonded off to their very happy companions, including a very strange skeletal dragon, Lightshow started to get a bit hungry. She first attributed it to not having had proper lunches lately - but then realized that it was more a feeling in her head, than in the pit of her stomach.

A swirly colored kind-of-green bonded someone nearby, but the colorful one who had broken out of her shell with that one had been sitting there waiting for something to happen. She looked around casually, from her little mound on the sands. Deliberately, the colorful girl looked at everyone in their turn. She didn't bother walking up to anyone until she seemed quite certain.

And when she was, it was to Lightshow that she walked.

Do you think your lights would clash with my colors? The dragonet asked mentally. Lightshow relished the feeling of the dragon's mind in her own. It was a fresh, lively voice, but with a depth of interest and concern.

"Don't worry, Sholusoilseth, we'll figure it out." Lightshow said. "There is food and I need a drink," she added, "over there. Let's go. I know you're hungry!"

The very colorful pair left the sands together - the way they would stay forever.

(had been lightshow3.htm)

Lightshow breathed in the chill air of the Danachian night, and smiled. They had been at the Cathair for more than six months, and Sholusoilseth had grown up rapidly into a beautiful colorful dragoness. Compared to the other dragons, she was of medium size, but a strong wing span and her wide tail flukes aided her in the air. Her long horns would sweep around when she gazed down at the ground. She was quite tall, compared to Lightshow or other human-sized creatures.

"How's the weather up there?" Lightshow jibed.

It is the same as it is where your head is, my rider. Why do you ask me things like that?

"To be funny, Sholu, just that. We're going to need to find my office, and annoy the crap out of Loya." Lightshow grinned widely.

I have never met Loya. Why do you want to annoy her? She sounds nice enough.

"Yeah, but she's such a stick in the mud. She almost turned away the people who sent me to find you here at the Cathair."

OH! Well then should we fire her?

"No! No, I don't wanna do all that paperwork myself, you know." Lightshow laughed, and climbed onto the dragon's shoulders. She felt so right, up there, behind the soft fan of rainbow colored neckridge skin, even though at first it looked like someone would have a difficult time behind that. That skeletal dragon might give their rider some difficulty but not Sholusoilseth.

Lightshow bid the locals a final farewell, genuinely going to miss them.

We can return and visit them, you know. Sholu reminded her rider. You do not need to ever miss an appointment again! Not with me!

As they rose into the air and swooped through a portal to Lightshow's chosen destination, Lightshow praised the dragoness for her accuracy and her wit. When they arrived, it was to the black hole junction of the Solos.

Todd and Sara were still the only ones with dragons, there, which struck Lightshow as kind of odd.

"How are you doing? No one else bonded? What's up with that?" Lightshow asked, throwing her arms around both the stunned musicians. They could hardly speak - for staring at Sholu.

"She's ... really amazing," Sara said. "I mean, really." She abruptly turned to her own Hathian dragon and apologized, "I don't mean that you aren't! I never said that! Look at her, love!" She turned the dragon's head and the female snorted. Apparently the small Hathian wasn't all that impressed by the showy look of the Danachian.

"Are you going to tour still?" Todd asked. "She's big enough to take your whole rig."

"She is, isn't she!" Lightshow said, suddenly giddy. She'd been in this business for many, many years, and she'd hardly felt like this. The last time was when she met Hotblack Desiato, but the thrill faded even with a star of that magnitude. Not with Sholu.

That would never fade, like their colors.

.
Sholu

Name: Sholusoilseth (show loo SOIL seth)
Gender: Female
Size/Shoulder/Length: called 'medium' but this is a raug dragon 17' s / 90' l / 160' ws
Colors: Sunset Rainbow Purple; reddish violet body with swirly chrome rainbow reflections; belly armor, wingsails, and all fins reflective rainbow; claws and horns grey
Features: Danachian 2 wings with buttwings and finned tail fluke, tall crest
Powers: Winged Flight, Sholu is happiest in low gravity and clear skies, but can power dive with gravity to aid her and not break a sweat coming out of a huge maneuver over a stadium. She's definitely a big dragon and can carry all the equipment as promised
Teleport, local, long, nexus, temporal; a dragon born of different dimensional parentage, defying any 'color based' precedents? yeah you know she's going to be teleporting anywhere she darn well pleases. While long distance or very weird dimensional travel does wear her out, she can blip about locally up to 200 miles at a pop, or to specific loations such as her rider's homes, the arena, or the Grid without issue. The reason they showed up to the Solos 'and only two had bonded' was because she came back almost directly to the moment that Lightshow had left them...
Telepathy, pure and strong of mind, her mental energy is shiny, very thick, and smells of boysenberries
Telekinesis, a hold-over or perhaps a rediscovered power that allows her to keep things close to herself, while flying
Carries Firebreath, but doesn't use it in any capacity, will carry as unassisted
Parentage: Rain + Stirdalath
Mate/Offspring:
Origin: Braethas Raug Art By: Ktrenal
Other Info: You might think that the stage just has a big inflated or painted statue of a chrome-rainbow dragon. It is not a statue. It is not a wacky arm inflatable. It is, in fact, a real dragon.

Minor

Dragon Tuned - generalized but only works on her particular dragon, she cannot control others but senses and communicates easily, dragons overall of any non-Zekiran types seem to like her

Major

Perfect Pitch - can hear and emulate with her voice or any instrument virtually any sound she's heard; this also confers a strong bonus to her hearing, though she can't be deafened, as this is specific to tonal and frequency attunement, she can pick out a single voice among an entire choir, or a single foot out of beat in a marching band

Savant: Rhythmic Patterns and Instruments - capable of picking up basically any instrument from drums and cymbals to Moog synthesizers and emoto-tone devices and using them as though she's been formally trained on them. This doesn't imply any particular knowledge of how they're built or repaired, but their use is instantly known. That said she doesn't perform music for her shows, rather she will pick up whatever is needed for a session recording, to help boost other performers on their work. She does own quite a few instruments, but only after coming to Zekira did she dump them all in one place at her mansion

Local Light Production - using her devices as enhancement only, she can manipulate light frequencies from low ultraviolet to mid infrared. This is how she manages to please a great number of radically different species worth of eyeballs during concerts, and knowing the crowd is very important to how she'll manipulate it. The devices at her headband, neck, wrists, waist, and knees all are capable of producing simple amounts of light energy that respond to her mental commands. She takes this energy and creates strobes, laser-sharp motion, colors, and even imagery and patterns exactly like a laser light show might, all centered on herself. She also uses a 'light guitar' but it's still basically an electric guitar with light emitters, that can be held as a sort of cannon or gun aiming where she wants it manually. None of this costs her any particular endurance, beyond the performance effort itself, the light power doesn't drain her at all

Special Conditional Power: Crowd Sense and Emotion Control - while she does have an always-on passive 'note to self: emotion over there', she can expand this greatly when she's using her light-based abilities and is in 'concert mode'. Since she only really needs to trigger this during events, her body and energy generally require those but it can be forced on if really needed. Crowds up to 10 thousand people (!) and 'as big as this stadium seating' can be sensed as an overall mass, so she can detect whether they're enjoying what is going on, if she needs to change up the playlist at all, and if there is anything untoward going on in the crowd that she should address from the stage. She can 'see' pockets of angry in a sea of bliss, spot where someone might be riling up their neighbors, and will not hesitate to point those people out shining a spotlight right on them if needed. Nearby (to about 100 meters) and up to 500 people (that is still a tremendous number) can be swayed or lulled, and up close (to 10 meters) and under 20 people (a much more normal Zekiran power effect) can be outright altered from one emotion to another smoothly. One on one, if there is such a need, she can actually completely alter an emotion or mood in a single person as long as she's within about 200 meters and can detect them, but it costs quite a lot of concentration to do this. This power does drain her a bit, but she's used to it and can keep a concert crowd interested, happy, brought to tears, or other relevant emotions for up to 4 full hours without a break. This is why she's making the big credits, by the way, not because she's twisting people's minds, but because she really is good at it.
Physical Mutations / Social Disadvantages
Mutations She is a native to Zed, which comes with its own specific nonZekiran items such as their skin tones being entirely greyscale with specific markings, their tallness (even taller than most average Zekirans due to their normal configuration of limbs), and normally Zeddians have four arms and two legs. She has only two arms, which for their breed is a mutation.

Minor

'Markings' not really a mutation but will carry specifically in any offspring, as will her skin tones

Major

Physical Spaceworthiness - doesn't suffer from any vertigo or pressure issues when in very low or zero gravity, or in fact in open space; she has been exposed to The Grid which is basically a black hole, this is part of what it does to humanoids

Special Shows Only Two Arms, but Carries Four Arms - any offspring will likely have some manner of multiple limb type of mutation, whether that comes in the form of added fingers, unusual joints, or more arms and / or legs than typical. This will breed as Zekiran mutations might, if a tailed partner is found, there is a high chance that they will lose their legs entirely but have a long snake-like body, or gain leather wings if there is a back/added mutation in the partner
Disadvantages Was abandoned as an infant because she lacked 'all' her limbs, which perhaps has more of an advantage to her, since it made her absolutely driven to succeed. She hopes, bitterly, that her parents actually do know she's become an intergalactic rockstar. On Zekira however, she does have to think about what she's doing or saying, knowing that there are social requirements, and doesn't want to make too many people angry here
