Origin is qualified as Magic/Mutant |
When your family is split between ancient Mu mages and modern mutants you have a pretty large number of people that don't trust you just for that. It is her goal to make sure that bad guys get spotlighted as bad regardless of their own background or powers, and talks up how any origin can be the good guys as much as she can |
As a registered 'Corruptor', she has powers that are largely geared toward aggressive manipulation of enemies, with secondary aid ability.
Main powersets are all about 'darkness'. The forces of magical void manipulation and creation come from her father's Mu mage lineage. These vary from individual medium ranged blasts and snipes, to immobilization, confusion and terrorizing, and knockback/knockdown. She can also tap enemies to siphon their health away to restore her own as well as those around her, and in all cases these darkness abilities cause an immediate and powerful drain on the ability to accurately hit opponents, and the damage output of any successful attacks. At a point in the future these will be aided by 'Dark Mastery' abilities which include a very strong disorient, endurance boosts from enemies nearby, and even the ability to revive herself from a near-death state!
She also has travel abilities, an incredibly strong mutation-based power of flight. Whether this is in any way related to the void or darkness powers is unclear, but she does leave a very faint 'dark trail' when she flies. She can hover, fly alone, or boost the flight and release the effects of gravity on other people in a sphere around herself. But also she can positively slam an enemy out of the air - possibly by 'turning gravity back on' them? In times of need she can boost her air speed but this leaves her exhausted, so she uses this carefully and more often than not to escape rather than enter a combat. |
Has been taking classes for both archaeology and civil engineering though not as a dedicated college student. She will eventually graduate from one of Paragon's campuses with Bachelors' degrees in both, with specialties in studying the presence of magic in historical dig sites, and how best to protect those sites from or with proper magically-aided engineering |
She is extremely sensitive to light, her eyes in particular, so she must wear protective glasses, they're not just for show. Her skin burns and peels almost immediately when she's fully exposed to bright sunlight (only), but she also takes added damage from energy attacks that emulate 'full spectrum' sunlight. This is part of her mutation, not due to magical influence, as her mother's side of the family all have similar pale skin and sensitive eyes |
Spidey is a sidekick. Nalina is definitely a partner! |
Not a remarkably strong young woman, this is partly due to her small stature (She stands barely 5'1", and is 'petite') |
Average endurance, but she can replenish both health and endurance with the use of her dark magic |
Excellent manual control, with precise finger posturing being extremely important for the use of spellcasting. Even if she's not using 'spells' she could easily learn them |
As her dragon flies without wings, so does Kayt. She can weave around people, in fact she can pull off a 'herding dog agility course' without even touching the ground or poles! |
While above average in smarts, she doesn't really concentrate on this, relying more on her educational and heroic skillsets |
Though a slow start and several directions to study hindered her, she has managed to work her way through very impressive and difficult course work |
Kayt prefers to appear only when needed, she's not a front-runner she's mostly a solo hero act. She can smile pretty for PR purposes, but doesn't like giving interviews |
She is rather pretty, with pale skin (that burns) and oddly ashen-grey blond hair falling to her shoulders. But she does not like frilly dresses or fancy shoes, she's here to hero |
She lets her dragon do the 'presence' thing, though she is pretty decent at snappy comebacks in the field |
Doesn't shy away from most fights, even if she's basically minion-filter for stronger heroes. Has no fear of heights, fire, or strange magic and people |
A modestly powered heroine, it's how she uses what she does know, and leverages her varied background to good effect |
Quite skilled in the use of her darkness and flight, particularly! But she also can spot magic in use, read the Circle's script and spell books, as well as ancient maps |

Kayt can play by herself or on a team, and is dutiful about either. She doesn't sit around listening to the police scanner though. When they fly, they mean business!
Heroic but when you have Mu magic backing you up, as well as a flaming dragon, things can get a little hectic
Knows how to spot the city's dangers and takes them out, but may often leave frightened bystanders

| Was it irony that brought a fire-bearing dragon to a light-sensitive dark-controlling woman? Possibly. However, aside from the obvious annoyance factor that each did something the other had trouble dealing with, having a dragon the size of Nalina on your side made fighting crime a lot easier. With Kayt giving simple directions on where they would go, and what kinds of things they would be hitting, Nalina's duty was more often than not simply to stand guard. If they could fit her into a warehouse or the occasional factory floor, that was perfect, because absolutely nothing said 'you lose, criminals' like a burning-headed dragon blocking the way out. |
"I am not a sidekick," Nalina muttered.
"No you're not a sidekick," Darkflash said, "you're my partner, I keep telling you that. We do things together."
"You do a lot more, I would like to arrest some bad men too. There are plenty of them. Look there," she nosed downwards, and Darkflash looked the way she was facing. They were flying over Paragon and of course what they saw was crime. A pair of Hellions were roughing up a lady for her purse.
"Well then, now's your chance, I won't interfere. Go for it." Darkflash floated in the air, fully capable of flight on her own. If need be, she could always whip out a dark-patch or lob a confusing spat of darkness at the gangsters, but it turned out Nalina did just fine. She dropped to the ground, behind the pair, and the woman they were accosting fell on her butt when they realized that the heavy breathing sound wasn't their own.
Nalina was massive, compared to them. If the taller of the two came up to her mid-arm, it would be impressive. So she arched her long, burning neck and snorted once at the men. "You're under arrest," she said.
Both of them passed out straight away. Nalina giggled a little, and accepted the praise that the woman she'd rescued gave her. She retrieved her partner, feeling much better about herself as they headed back to the school grounds and more practice.
With a graduated Kayt and a group of other heroic types in tow, the dragons of the Paragon Special Studies program went out into the world. Darkflash was more attuned to her needs now, and realized that any chance to take the dragon on an 'outdoor' misison was one she had to grab. No need in having an uppity dragoness out there in the city.
They fought a lot of magicians, dangerous mages who trapped souls in gems and who apparently had a huge underground city below Paragon. It was there that Nalina surprised Kayt, squeezing into some of the long narrow hallways and proving her worth by helping defeat a particularly dangerous summoning. The huge vaulted underground chambers were actually well suited to Nalina's flight, she could snake through the doors fairly well, though some of the broken coridors no one dared enter were obviously off limits.
They went after more and more of these missions, and in the process, Nalina's flight skill became quite well honed. Around Steel Canyon, they could fly past office buildings and startle even the most jaded Paragon citizen. Nalina was apt to show off during flights, and especially at night when she could light her own way.
It wasn't long though, before Kayt realized another important thing: Nalina would get horny while they flew around, looking at other dragons and wondering. Though they weren't particularly well-joined telepathically, Kayt was observant enough to know the signs of a dragon that needed a mate. In her discussions with Silverfish and the others, they realized there weren't really good mates for her here, just now. Somewhere else, they had to find a place for her to mate.
That somewhere presented itself in a roundabout manner. One or two heroes were known to hop from world to world, and Retail Retali8r was such a person. With her own unique dragon, and another who seemed almost like a third member of her team almost always with her, she would bring back gossip from the far reaches of multiple worlds.
And one piece was extra juicy, because it involved a certain red dragon named Diorul hosting a flight at a snowy location called Kilandaia. RR actually took the pair there, because unlike some of her ancestry and relatives, Nalina could neither teleport nor nexus-jump. "You'd think," Rita commented carefully to Kayt, "that with all those dragons in her lineage she'd be able to do a lot more than control her own fire..." But she didn't say it all that loudly, and thankfully Nalina didn't overhear. It was true, she hardly did much more than fly and burn - but that was in fact a lot more than she needed to do, when facing down demons or mages!
The snowy countryside was chilled, but enjoyably dim. Kayt's eyes got a break, while she relaxed in the lodge. She did hear a little of Nalina's annoyed voice, "I'm not here to talk philosophy, I'm here to find a mate!" Soon enough the dragoness was signed up, and would have to wait for others to join in before claiming Diorul for her own.
There was definitely a complication: Diorul had a female bond. A dragon female. Scathing looks, and rather sinister muttering would follow whenever Nalina passed Scolskoot, but she was assured that nothing would befall her while she was still waiting for the flight.
Both Nalina and Kayt really hoped that would remain true afterwards too... And woe betide anyone who suggested the smaller red just step aside while her bond chose his mate... (Did not win this flight) |
| They later found a little male draca, with coloration that immediately screamed 'spider-man' costume! Spidey can talk, and actually has quite the smart-mouth on him. It was possible that he had attended actual 'Snappy Comeback' classes at CHS before deciding where to head, with his new friends.

| Nalina |
Name: Nalina-ver Li'Multigenus "Nal"
Gender: Female
Size/Shoulder/Length: large 19'6" s / 70' l / n/a wingspan but spars 22'
Colors: Violet with Red markings, crimson fur and stripes, with gold claws and horns, beige belly
Features: MegaMutt (Wris'Talora, Whorling, Altered Old World, Wynd of Mythos, Gryvern, Lesser Kynnese, Schatternaki, Geperna, Whorling, Featherdragon, Old World, Danachian, SCD, and Iulerbrillan)
Powers: (note *since literally none of these are up any more, I'm going to add from Kateni's line as well as tapping ^other ancestry, since they seem like this pair desperately needed some similarities. These abilities appear as Nalina matures)
Wingless Flight, tremendously adept at moving around in even close quarters, Nalina is able to just point her nose in the right direction and go. She can fly at full speed over 90mph in open air, though not for a very long period, and woe to anyone who can't keep up or hang on for dear life. She can carry a reasonable amount of weight given her very large overall height and long build, so long as there are ways to either mitigate the fire she's got on her neck or cling farther back behind her wing spars. They have a harness designed for such things, capable of carrying about 12 human sized items at virtually any weight, she ignores gravity who needs it?
Verbal Speech and *Telepathy, With practice she is able to connect with her bond, though only Kayt, and finds it much easier to speak out loud. She does have a bit of a pout going when she feels like it, but also can command with a stunningly loud voice
Personal Flame Control, *Conjure and *Influence Fire, *Flame Breath Weapon; Some of these abilities were present at hatching and several exist only after she's 'read up' on how others in her lineage work. She can make that mane and her foreleg flames burn bright and hot, or dim and comfy, at will. But later she is able to manipulate existing fires, though mainly magic-constructed ones. She can enhance normal flames to a small degree, but prefers to work on blasting with her existing flame or that from other magical casters. Her 'breath weapon' will never be the flashy version that some in her line might have, but since she is pretty large her flame blast does go about 50 meters in a very strong burst. It will light things on fire and catch gasses or easily flammable surfaces, but they tend to not remain hot longer than she's concentrating on it
^Dark Majyck (low control/ability), this power came about mainly when her bond went exploring her father's side of the family, and they wound up essentially surrounded by dark magic cast from the ancient Mu adepts under Paragon. It stood to reason that with several in her own lineage extremely capable of such feats, that she aids Darkflash with a 'dark boost' additionally tapping into the void when her rider cannot. With Kayt's encouragement, they have explored how best to use this, even though it will never be a primary ability for the dragoness

Other Info: Personality - Nalina is an intense character, and though she is usually surrounded by a good number of people, she really doesn't have many good friends. She is a charismatic creature, despite her tendency to be arrogant and controlling. Strangely enough, despite the image of strength that she perpetuates, everything that Nalina does is underscored by an overwhelming fear. She hides it well, but anyone who truly knows her knows it's true. Nalina fears being seen as anything other than what she shows the world, the confidence cannot falter, the strength cannot fail. If she isn't on the top then she has failed. She is confident in situations and places that are familiar to her, but anything too new and Nalina is thrown off balance. |
