Timeline altered as follows: *bby = before Battle of Yavin, an event that *does not occur* here
-- BBY -32 Maul kills Qui-gon Jinn and is cut in half, presumably falling to his death, by Obiwan
-- At some point before this, when Kamino would have been removed from records, and only 're'discovered by the Jedi later on, Kamino is still in full view during the Clone Wars and before it.
-- Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala are in love, and marry not-secretly in what would be BBY -20
-- Anakin, Obiwan, and Ahsoka are drawn away from battles by an ancient Jedi distress signal, where they arrive to Mortis, meeting the Father, Daughter, and Son. This plays out largely as it does in the show, but with a couple important changes. The Daughter does not die at the hand of her brother, but is gravely wounded and the Son realizes the gravity of his deeds, offering a portion of his own power to keep her alive. Anakin remains in place of the dying Father rather than leaving with the others back to their duties.
-- This causes a strong ripple in the Force, including causing the dreadfully injured but still alive Maul to seek out Obiwan- not to kill him, but to find out what has happened. He is still in a desperate state of physical pain, carrying himself on a Force-created 'spider' body, that is eventually replaced by new Kaminoan genetic material
-- Maul accepts that the revenge he really wanted is against the people who wronged him: Mother Talsin and Darth Sidious in particular; since he knows now he stands a chance to defeat the real enemy, Palpatine aka Darth Sidious. Obiwan becomes a member of the Jedi Council, and a very young Ahsoka Tano is promoted to Master thanks to her actual abilities, not just 'because reasons'.
-- Because of the wave of change and balance moving across the Force, many in the Jedi Council who had previously been complacent or even complicit with Sidious or Palpatine's actions in the Senate, 'come to their senses' and listen when told of the dangers to the galaxy. In light of this, Yoda quits the Council to return to a more simple way of life and is occasionally tapped by the Jedi for training difficult Padawan.
-- Before he can enact 'Order 66', Palpatine is captured and killed by Ahsoka and Maul, leaving the Senate to deal with the Separatists and Republic issues, all of which continue for a while before finally ceasing with knowledge of the entire reason of the Clone Wars. The Clones remain a peacekeeping force even long after this point, while most droids are put into roles of repair and maintenance of worlds ruined by the fighting
-- At some point in here, JarJar Binks is outed as a Sith, but is paired with a Jedi to keep watch over him, rather than kill or imprison the Gungan, since he seemed to be shaken to his core at the death of the Sith Master (and had largely been ineffectual at his Sith duties, let's just say that). Due to his cooperation, the Jedi learn of the number of actual Sith still out there, which thanks to the 'blanket of complacency' being lifted, they believe and finally would have done something about it, but their decisions are kept more toward the 'diplomatic' rather than 'let's start a whole new war with the remaining Sith'. Because of the Force growing more strongly to repair relations, most Sith are more willing to listen than fight
-- By what would have been BBY -19, Padme and Anakin's twins are born, Luke and Leia are raised on Naboo but with strong influences from both Force-users and diplomatic friends. It is clear that they both have strong Force abilities, and indeed will eventually become a bonded Force team, with Luke representing the Sith side and Leia the more chill but extremely strong diplomatic one
-- BBY -15-current Era; Over time many Night Sisters and other 'witches' from other Force-devoted variations are tapped to aid in the repair and maintenance of the political structure of the Galaxy. Even though Maul's youth was formed from hatred and revenge, the Nightsisters and 'brothers' as well as other clans and covens follow his lead. Not really unified, but willing to work with rather than against the other Force users
--
Asajj Ventress and Quinlan Vos marry. Their union is seen as a precursor to the "Always Two" initative, with the other 'original' pair of Ahsoka and Maul representing the more diplomatic and professional 'work partners' style
-- The final peace accord and trade agreements are signed between differing members of the Galactic federations
--
The timeline is now defined as 'Year Zero New Era (NE 0)' from the official End of the Clone Wars - what would have been BBY 10
--
"Always Two" has been enacted:
Always Two signifies a new beginning of the way of Balance: a Jedi paired with a Sith, not merely padawan or apprentice, but once their training is largely complete, either will seek out a new companion. Ventress and Vos, as well as Ahsoka and Maul, and many others around the Galaxy find common ground to exploit both sides' strongest points. Rather than attempting to defeat one another, the Light and Dark sides have come to an agreement: they are simply two sides of one coin, they can complement instead of compete. Everyone wins, though there are still plenty of hold-outs on both sides of this agreement. However most of those are seen as being errant or throw-backs, rather than the norm. While their training is still done separately, when grown and considered a Master in either art, a ceremony is held to unify those who seem to attract one another.
Training for a Sith involves strength of mind, willpower over the physical form, and basically finding ways to pry open things both metaphorical and physical. Their power is direct, hard, and accordingly sharp, but not necessarily deadly or even painful. They overcome, rather than undermine. The Jedi's training usually takes a more indirect route, using wiles and thought to their advantage, and while still actively able to fight, their prowess is with misdirection and diffusing a situation before it can get out of hand. Their combination tactics are often 'talk it out first, if that fails nudge a little, and if that is not possible let's just duke it out'. It's often of note that the Jedi might be seen as the 'softer' of the pair, but in reality they are far from gentle if they must be; the Sith side as well has its calm and smooth moments, they are hardly slavering beasts in general. When forced to fight they fight as one, or more accurately they team up as dancers might, with elegant and poised movements that are duplicated or reversed, and bold jumps, holds, and slides that confuse enemies or distract their attention while the other is doing something else.
A bonded pair's ability to research and develop new techniques is encouraged and the 'dancing' aspect of their physical form eventually becomes 'school of instruction'. 'My martial art is better than yours' with not just telekinesis and lightsabers, but styles of research and diplomatic words. Most pair schools will not allow their students to openly fight other schools, that defeats the entire purpose of having different methods! Rather, elders will collect information about which style works best with what kind of situation, and tap one another's students to send to the proper locations.
The Jedi / Sith union is in place for 2 full generations, around 60 years when any characters are created for it. |
