Class Schedules and School Information
FVHS is a four-year, year-round school with a approximately a 270-day attendance, split into 90-day trimesters. While this might sound quite excessive to some public school students and parents, this is discipline in action! It's run as a combination of boot-camp and focused training, and traditional high school and college prep classes. First trimester begins September (earliest Monday) and ends in December (Friday before main holiday break); second trimester is from mid-January (first Monday after new year's week) through the last Friday in April, and third trimester is from the first Monday in May through the third Friday in August. Students might balk at the mandatory Saturday training courses and physical education practice, but the school does not have an organized sports team aside from the swordsmanship courses and the Danger Room activities, so while all students are expected to perform in some physical manner, not all of them take those types of classes regularly. Those who do participate in them are given other tasks on those Saturdays, such as helping clean classrooms and tidy the grounds, as well as liberal study opportunities and time for other course work if they've fallen behind.
The school has a 6-class structure, alternating class periods 1/3/5 on Monday and Wednesday, with 2/4/6 on Tuesday and Thursday, with all 6 classes attended on Friday. Classes are 1.5 hours except on Fridays which is 1 hour, and a half-hour mandatory study break between the first two classes except on Friday. Lunch break is half an hour after the second class of the day, fridays between 3rd and 4th periods. Classes generally have a 10 minute hall time. School begins at 8:30 AM, promptly, though classes tend to let out slightly earlier than their full 1.5 hours, and school lets out around 2:15 PM depending on the final class.
All students are expected to maintain themselves with dignity and common sense. There is a dress code though it has quite a few options available for those who have either different physical needs, or the money to go more flashy; students may wear clothing they find appropriate to their identity, within reason (no, your plain old Human will not be granted permission to wear an outfit with a tail-hole 'because they identify as an otter'), and good grooming practices for hair, facial hair, and fur or other types of additions is encouraged. A social and civil code must be followed rigorously, and depending on the student's background or the instructor's expectations, all students will generally need to learn to curtsey, bow, kneel, or salute in whatever fashion is appropriate to their instructor or the staff at large.
Students are encouraged to find their niche, and stick with what they are best at. While they are required to pass state and national exams for other subjects, this can be achieved by cram sessions and tutoring shortly before the exams. By the nature of this school's intended results, there are limited classes offered but varied by the individual instructor's specialty. A normal set of Math, English, Sciences, History, and other such courses are available, not all of them are taught by the those doing more unusual subjects. Because of the origin of this school and its somewhat hush-hush goals, interscholastic events are modest to rare and generally speaking are held on this campus rather than going elsewhere unless it's a very important meet. The exceptions are the 'Heroic Studies' attendees who will both compete in 'sidekick-level' events across the SoCal area and when licensed properly can be found actively fighting (or... well, perpetrating) crime; as well as a strong Debate team which goes on a state-wide tour when appropriate.
