This is likely related to a strong 'sense' of machinery that he gets whenever there is an opportunity to touch it. Furnace, steam engine, good old Hemi supercharger? It's likely that his skills were honed by both his father and Ruby's, since they both now collaborate on superheroic vehicles and gadgets. It's not just fast though, it's safe to ride in, and secure enough to leave lots of expensive gear in without worry even in 'bad parts' of town Buff Out - able to coax outrageous performance out of even the worst wreck of a vehicle, just by sweetly talking to it while giving any part a little spit-shine. A +3 for vehicle maintenance specifically. This also applies to more than just his dad's vehicles; he's got names for all of the instruments he and his sister work with, and has been learning Ruby's too - they benefit from this care and affection, particularly before a show or recording session, offering the individual instrument a +2 to 'being played' by its proper hands, and thus a ^+2 to performances overall particularly if he and Ruby are both working on things together

Wouldn't it be cool if you could do that though? He's heard that the Zekirans probably have people all over the place that just do this? Instrumental Care +3 (2) He's less concerned about being called out on 'hey you didn't take a class for this' in this case, because he knows full well that most modern musical geniuses barely know the names of the parts in that bass or French horn. From start to finish, choosing woods and metals, the right cloth and rubber parts for flutes, brass, or woodwinds, how to compare string materials for your violin and bow, tuning a piano, what not to polish your harp with, all of that for more or less any instrument that has existed more than 80 years (so, harp, but not eigenharp, piano and organ but not electrial keyboards) he is definitely the right guy to repair or upgrade it Musical Aptitude +2 Ray is the perfect bassist: calm and collected, almost sedate on stage, but also ridiculously cool during his solos - and yes they most certainly offer him songs that will let him show his stuff. His preferred instruments are traditional, but he clearly excells at the electric ones as well. Ray can pick up a full sized string bass and use a bow, and you've never seen a guy this cool playing a harp...
Skills 18	^Street Racing and Car Shows +6 (3) He is typically found in the repair area, but is certainly chill enough to actively participate in complex course racing, speed trials, overland long races, and pretty much everything in between. While his sister has debate and chess club trophies, he's got racing and mechanical engineering ribbons and cups all decorating his prize corner in his room. There are still some amount of rules governing who can actually drive or maintain the vehicles in some big-time racing circuits, so he has to wait until graduation as well as getting his certification for a few of them before he'll be allowed to race or run a pit crew at the TJ 500. He looks forward to that day! Social Awareness +4 Even if his sister's the one with all the mouthy skills, he knows there are some things that society - particularly Skinside - has to work on. He knows it used to 'just' be race relations between black and white, latino and asian, but many cities have added layers of furries, scalies, and now even aliens, godlings, mages, and monsters. It used to be just 'are you really gaaaaay'? He hates it when someone assumes that just because he is human, or black, or a guy, or with a girlfriend... that he's a Retro, or racist, or cis, or even just straight. He is none of those things, and he won't hesitate to remind people who make assumptions to mind their own bidness, as all of those things are nunya! Superheroic By Nature +2 He and his sister did grow up in a City of Heroes, even as a very young child he idolized those folks who sped through the streets to reach a bomb before it went off, or caught bullets in their hands, or even just flew patrols to make sure that everyone was looking at the bright sky now and then. While he certainly has his skill set and knows where he will be winding up later (maybe, given he's got this gig and now potentially a dragon friend??) he has always aspired to be 'that hero' that someone else looks up to
Knacks 4	A Long Fuse Is Still A Bomb +4/-3 Even if he's the chillest guy you will ever meet, on or off the stage or in the orchestra pit or even the repair bay... He has his limits. You can definitely rely on him to calm things down if and only if they do not directly involve his sister, his partners, or marginalized groups. Because the moment you start going off about 'those people', he will get right up in your face, and give you a very very big piece of his mind. He knows he's not the bright one, but he also knows right from wrong and he is unafraid to speak that truth. Yes, he's come to blows against Retros - that one time he was hanging out 'a little too close to the cat-guy', and thankfully his mother's expert legal connections made sure that everyone knew that hospital stay was not going to be on his bank account... Breakups Are Never Final, We Will Always Be Friends +3 He means it. Maybe it's just not working out because you're a nocturnal and we never get time together. Maybe your folks are just... more protective than his shining personality can win over. Maybe, even ... you don't care for loud music... Any and all of those things have been the cause for backing away from a relationship but there are plenty of people out there! For him and you! Now go get em!
