Powers |
Winged Flight - Spends so much time in the air you'd think she was levitating, but no she's just so at home on the wind. Even just a little breeze will pick her mood up, so if it's one of those still-dead-air days, she's just ever so mopey T_T
Psionics - Rather than magic this dragon has an overall ability with psionic power, based on mind over matter.
Telepathy and Verbal Speech - She will listen to everyone's thoughts, and keep her mouth shut until it's absolutely the worst time for you. >_> Her telepathic range is about 1 mile, and if she knows the other mind is also telepathic it expands to about 2 miles. She is easily noticed mentally, so she will make sure of whether someone's mind is able to resist or notice before prying too deeply. At close range she is able to discern subsurface thoughts and background mental noise, which can be distracting but also warn of subversion or danger, or trouble with individuals on campus.
Her voice however is loud and clear, or soft and sinister, she's quite the vocal talent actually, and she can understand many different spoken languages, only those which she's very interested in will she learn how to actually speak or write however. Why not learn how to listen in to all that juicy gossip, why let a language barrier prevent you!
Teleportation and Bilocation - psionically powered, she's got quite the mental map of where to go, who to see there, and how best to get around curfew. Why yes, you did see her out at the bonfire at midnight, and yes you did also see her at the dragon dorms at midnight. Shh. Don't think on it too much. She can teleport line-of-sight up to 'however far that distant hill is' (usually around 30 miles) and with concentration up to 200 miles. With her bilocation ability she must be able to fit in the area twice, and she can only really do this when she's not activating her 'size shift' earring (it doesn't work twice, whoops found that out the hard way that one time) but within about 20 miles, she can be chatting and having her gossip session with the Fiction Fans on campus, and also be floating above the North Bay Cliffs stretching her wings a bit.
Fire Affinity - Perhaps able to fly so well in nice breezy warm weather, or just in conditions that aren't so blustery or cold, because she has a penchant for warmth and flames. Fire seems to obey her and is a focal point of her communication with others at longer distance than her mind can reach. Not afraid to cause a pop of flames above her location, or even skywrite with it (with heavy concentration) there are a lot of people who would want her to find more profitable uses by advertising their shops this way! She can extinguish or produce flame at will, from a tiny match-head sized flicker to a raging bonfire, fire simply obeys her whim. |

Flight +4 You gotta be fast and you gotta be clever in the air if you want to avoid being caught by the hall monitors at CHS... Lacalx is a powerful speedster with extremely good cornering, banking, and roll ability, allowing her to become one of the Dragon Stunt Team's finest members - when she's not in detention from skipping classes
Nexus Navigation +3 Remarkably adept with knowing exactly where she can go, Lacalx has only ever gotten better with time and practice. She has a not-so-passing understanding of how dimensions intersect, where they're weakest and how hard some can be to leave once entered... |
Skills |
Reading and Languages +3 Any brain that can handle being in two places at one time should be as capable as this, and she reads voraciously. As she's grown in size she's also had to get special equipment to allow her to borrow books from the library, since many of them haven't been scanned into the campus VR reader system (she's really hoping they do that with the rest of their ancient history collection). In addition to English script however she is able to read and decode scripts from a number of other local as well as offworld languages. She's partial to the Indonesian script and Nepalese, and the complexity of Zekiran and the pseudo-Zekiran Vortigese script. Since she is telepathic she can understand why the Vorts didn't need a script, but the highly useful adaptation of the other planet's typeface has let people send at least partially-coded messages (wait that's not a zekiran phrase I don't understand those words, that's because it's not...)
Unerring Accuracy +3 Even if she's like a feather on the wind if she lets that wind pick her up, she is also able to squirm through a complex corridor or agility course easily and pick off tiny or quickly moving targets with her fire while in motion herself. She can make minute course corrections that mean she could pass through dangerous locations without being singed by burning doorframes or pierced by broken windows, and it's possible that the fire department or emergency services might try and convince her to join them at some point, because she really is that good at it |
Knacks |
Pry Into Yer Mind +3 When politeness or custom is not an issue, Lacalx simply reaches farther down into a mind than her typical 'invasive' process. Though she does this to 'friends' to find out things they won't tell her openly, she is also discovering that there are adults on campus with more secrets than most, and also while cruising around the Crescent City area overall there are unpleasant elements lurking in shadows.
Double Team All By Herself +3 While she's certainly a mean girl, she's not stupid - she benefits greatly from the dragonry program here and it would be a disaster if some of those darker minds took action. Deep motives and longer-held ideals can be read though she does have to be nearby (within 100 meters) it's a good thing she can, at times, be in two places... one to distract, another to listen in. She comes up with plans quickly and is actually a very good team event organizer, though a bit on the bossy side. |

Like many of the dragons on campus, Lacalx required a little bit of orientation before she was allowed to really get to classes. For one thing, she was much too big to sit in many of the regular classrooms, and certainly not able to sit in chairs designed for bipeds. But like many of the newer additions to the staff and student body, Lacalx was given some interesting technomagical items to help make her school experience more enjoyable.
"I think it looks good on me," she said, flicking her ear and looking at the 'ring' on it. Normally, while inactive, the ring at its full size was big enough to fit around many sentient's necks! But on her, it made a fashionable hoop earring with a kind of gemstone centered on it. While active, it simply brought her size down to a more managable Great Dane height - around 4 feet at the shoulder.
The fact that there were other dragons which had to do this, was the only thing keeping Lacalx from blowing a gasket about it. But, she wasn't particularly arrogant, just annoyed. And really... the only thing that kept her from turning it off randomly and breaking through buildings by resizing, was that she'd probably wind up hurting herself in the process. She's mean-spirited, not stupid.
Certainly not stupid at all. In fact, disturb her when she's studying to find out how mean she could be. She immersed herself into Twoarth culture immediately upon arrival, enjoying the diverse people and the amazing stories that could be written because of it. While her favorite class was probably Genre-Driven Fiction, the one she felt made the best use of her actual abilities was Armorsmithing.
No, no, not the Telepathy class... Because that fuddyduddy d'Ouberville wanted her to not use her telepathy the way she'd always tried.... Armorsmithing allowed her to play with fire plenty of times. That was nice, because otherwise she'd hardly get the chance outside of the school. They frowned on that kind of thing outside.
Fortunately, though, the city that the nexus-school was built in enjoys dragons. A lot. And she was more colorful than many. Definitely louder and probably more clever than most in fact. So, Lacalx attended school, parties, and watched sports (how fun to have a dragon-hoop team to back her up! She could play both guard and looper if she felt like it, and did at least once!). What more could a young dragon want!
**
Well what a nearly-graduated and absolutely-mature dragon like herself wants, is the chance to let loose and maybe... y'know. Hook up with another fine dragon. Not that there aren't fine dragons around here! There are plenty! But... she's not quite ready to settle down yet. But there is tell of a place connected to the Nexus, looking for traits, what a fun thing to do! Calico? Well she's not as blotchy-patched as some, but she definitely thinks she fits the bill. Heading off to the Academia de Magica Calico Festival! |
