Fumwucket's Sponsorships?

Fum had gone to a place called Sky Song Weyr. He wasn't the only one but there was a bit of a buzz that not quite enough people were attending to make the dragons happy. Well, that wouldn't do! Fum tried talking to a few people nearby before the hatching commenced about trying to convince them to stand, but they were otherwise occupied.

And they didn't really take him seriously, after all he was just a teenager... and a little one at that.

Nearing the stroke of midnight was when the call went out that the eggs were really hatching, and groggily Fum went out with the rest. It was dark out, very dark, but slowly the lanterns, glows, torches and whatever else were coming on in the hatching chambers. It was a good thing too because the beautiful multicolored hatchlings would have been best seen in bright daylight.

Two eggs - literally eggs with legs poking out of them - made their appearance and started sneaking up on Fumwocket Bellwhistle. One was a white and blue girl and the other was a pink and purple boy. They pounced on him happily. “You were expecting to sponsor but you got a bond instead.”

They sang out together, “oh by the way I’m Sinanilin and my sister is Roandin." they giggled pulling their new bond out of the sands.

They would be a great addition to the class, Fum thought. He hadn't expected two bonds, but... there they were, and they sure were adorable. They were also packed with energy. They did nothing apart, but fortunately allowed Fum to have his private time when he needed it.

Over time, Fumwucket and his beloved dragons became very popular among the students at Carramba. By the time Fum was a senior, and the dragons could be considered freshmen, it was going to be time to return to his homeworld of Jade.

"We've never been there," Sinanilin said, excited.

"Will it be fun? Do people like dragons there?" His sister Roandin said.

At that, Fumwucket paused. Dragons... were a bit weird there, weren't they? They weren't quite the things of legend that earth had, even magical earths. The dragons of Jade were... aliens, ancient, immortal, very powerful aliens.

Would people think that about Sin and Roa? Fumwucket was now a bit concerned.

"Don't be disappointed," Roandin nudged him, "we should go and find out!"

"I'm worried though," Fum said. "They're not friendly, those dragons are haughty, dangerous things. I've only heard stories but they're viscious and bitter. They guard secrets, and ..." He looked at his dragons, heart thumping hard. "And I don't want some treasure hunter coming to you for something you can't provide them. They'd be angry."

"I guess that is a bit of a worry," Sinanilin said with a bit of a sigh.

"But some day we'll go. I just don't know that it should be yet, because ... well, I'm still pretty young for my kind, and so are you."

They agreed finally that Fum would attend some college - for cooking as well as medical skills - and the dragons would continue to attend Carramba's dragon courses!
