Avril could hardly contain his giddiness. There would be some students chosen today for dragonry prep. Ever since he'd started taking classes at Carramba, he knew his life would be changed by a dragon. And sure enough, when Hollis and the others chose up some kids shortly before lunch, Avril was among those given a pamphlet detailing places where dragons were currently in need of bonds, or shortly were to hatch. Avril took the paperwork back with him to the "rich kids" apartments, where he lived in a nice studio. He missed living with his family on Sperth, but he'd go home now and again, and he was able to send interdimensional messages through the Nexus pretty easily - which he did with a mad giggle. "This is so awesome," he said. He flipped through the pamphlets, and then chose, the next day arriving at Hollis's office to find out more. "Since they're magical, we'll need to determine what kinds of things your bond, if you pair up, will do. But we've got that mostly covered, you'd get access to the Magical Studies building if you bond." Hollis said, not worried in the slightest about whether Avril could contain himself and not goof off while his dragon was studying. He was a superhero in training, anyway. If you couldn't trust them, who could you? Hollis chuckled, and slapped Avril on the back to congratulate him - and a moment later remembered that odd quirk of his origins... She looked at the professor, rolled her eyes, and said, "well, slap me again, teach, I gotta get to class, and Neko doesn't like it when I switch locker rooms." *** Sure enough, the hatchling that came to Avril was ... precious. As a male of his species, apparently Tabanzoo was considered rare and desirable. Well, that was fine, because he was a gorgeous dragon! I hope you plan on having enough room for me in your fancy apartment, the youngling's mental voice came, clear and soft. Avril chuckled. "Well, my apartment's not really suited to dragons, I'm pretty sure there are other places with a nice big den. My folks are going to be so proud..." Avril and Tabanzoo hit it off easily, while the dragon grew up it was over summer vacation, and he got to spend that time back on Avril's home dimension. Tab didn't even need to be instructed in why the worlds "looked the same" but were slightly different, as his species got around by hopping through different planes of reality. "Will you be my sidekick, then?" Avril asked, as they got back to classes in the fall of that year. Tab didn't really have to think about it. Well, there are benefits to that, I suppose... but what say we're a duo, instead? "That sounds perfect!" Avril laughed, never letting his smile slip. It would be good to have a true partner, he could fly - superheroes had to fly, right? Even if it was on a dragon, flight was flight! |
