Name: Uriah the Vort

Gender: Male

Age/DOB: likely more than 1000 years old

Origin: Repurposed dimension, born on Xen

Family: all Vorts from his dimension are his 'brothers', he possibly had offspring on Xen however, as he was not expected to be a fighter and was in fact working in the sciences

Other: Uriah is Arne Magnusson's assistant, and is relied upon for a great number of duties by the demanding scientist. He's never let The Magnusson down and is highly respected by both other Vorts as well as Magnusson himself, which is saying a lot.

Height: 5'6" normal, straightens to 6'1"

Weight: 155, compact and sleek, though who knows whether a Vort can get flabby, particularly under a labcoat

Hair: none

Eyes: typical as a Vort with crimson to bright red with orange-red pupil

Appearance: greyish green with some amount of tan and pinkish tones on neck and limbs; hooves are red-tinted, and he has some red around his ear cones as well. Almost immediately on arrival to Black Mesa, he picked up a labcoat and tried to 'blend in' with the locals. This endeared him to some of the scientists, and he likes having 'his' coat ... which does need to be washed, Uriah.

Genetic Abilities: as all Vorts, he has a keen sense of auras, and can Flux Shift to communicate with other Vortal minds nearby. Uriah has a good grasp of mechanical items, somehow inherently sensing their uses, and can then apply his moderate electrical blast pulse to fix or break them, or push more energy through a generator. While he can and has helped heal others, that ability isn't anywhere near as strong as most.

Icarus Processing: none, he is aware that it can help humans with some Vortal abilities, but has no need for such things

Skills or Profession: as he had been trained on Xen to work on machinery and scientific gear, having the opportunity to do so with illustrious humans has been a joy to him. He knows how to assemble large and small devices equally well, though his fingers are geared toward medium to large items and not fiddly things like watches or circuit boards. He likes both biological and mechanical sciences, and can help any group of lab assistants learn the ropes. He takes instruction from The Magnusson but also The EliVance, and even The Free Man if he's around. But mostly, he will tag along behind Magnusson and do whatever is needed to keep things flowing smoothly. That said, he's absolutely a great mechanical engineer himself, and can offer insights - when requested - on how to fix or create new items in the lab.
Personality: dedicated, focused, and a bit weird to be following a guy like Arne around, but someone's got to do it and lots of people are glad it isn't them. He seems perpetually amazed at Magnusson's abilities and inventions, as well as completely oblivious to how rude that man can be toward his own kind. Though he works directly with Magnusson's equipment, there has never been a time when he wouldn't help another if his own tasks were completed. He's reasonably kindly, a much softer presence than Arne, but his singleminded dedication to that man and his work does get a little grating after a time.

Events or History: As above, he was part of the Xenian scientific and mechanical engineering staff and as such he was responsible for creating transportation devices, tunneling and excavation machinery, and protective gear for the most part. Laying wires and conduit, setting up machinery for use, and instructing others until the inevitable time of the Earth invasions... He was among those who came to Earth shortly after Nihilanth's demise, as the Portal Storms started flashing around, and remained in Black Mesa the entire time he has been on Earth. He accompanied Magnusson on his journeys, serving at times as a porter but also as a valued assistant. Once the Combine there had been defeated, and everyone had more time to recover, he began training younger refugees and rebels alike on how to do those same things - repairing and creating devices and making sure that any remnants of the Combine were kept at a distance.

He does the same now, at the Rookery's Black Mesa, which he feels quite comfortable in. He does enjoy the occasional thrill of running with Dunestrike, clearing up Combine scouts with her and collecting their equipment for disassembly and reuse at the Rookery.

Dragon

Name: Dunestrike
Gender: Female
Size/Shoulder/Length: Medium 10' s / 52' l / 90' ws
Colors: neck, belly, under tail, and dorsal fin from nose to tail tip butter yellow with strong orange-tan edges; face, neck, body, limbs, tail, and wing arms very light cream, wings slightly more yellow on back, all with bold graphite-black diamond and stripe markings; wingsails underneath hazy orange with grey-brown very thin striations; horns yellow and black, claws light grey, eyes yellow and orange
Features: Sandwing, exotic, with features slightly different from most Pyrrhan dragons
Powers: Winged Flight, Dunestrike is fast and sturdy, erupting into the air from under sand or cover equally well. She kicks up a lot of detritus when she takes off and lands, so some folks consider her to be a 'helicopter' of a dragon, so be careful when she's on her way up or down. She's very strong, can carry several tons of weight provided it's balanced and properly harnessed onto her chest or back, and can carry this weight steadily for hours on end, particularly in warm weather. In cooler weather or bad / wet conditions, she doesn't like to fly, and generally won't hunt or fly unless she must. In the air, she can dart side to side or even fly inverted, she's quite agile, and prefers bold high-noon days in the desert to do so.
Sand and Ground Tactics, her ability to remain just barely under the surface of any sand dune, or tucked under rubble, is well known. If someone helps cover her, she can sit unnoticed for days without blinking, and if anything comes near, it's absolutely toast. She can burrow in loose sand, and easily scoots around in loose bricks or fallen cement pieces.
Communication, she is only able to send and receive actual thoughts from her Vort companion, but otherwise can speak clear Draconic, and gives a good try and voicing Vortigese - in fact she can bellow Vort words while Uriah Flux Shifts, carrying his messages quite a bit farther than they normally would even with Vort lungs! She understands complicated English terms, technological jargon, and the like, because of her closeness to Uriah and Magnusson. She does get on reasonably well with his dragon.
Desert and Arid Adaptation, as above she is well suited to hot, dry, and sunny environments, and loves being in the desert. Though it's not a true dune desert, this scrubland and that nearby ('near' meaning New Vegas and the Mojave) is ideal for her. She can go without water for weeks if not a month at a time, and generally gets her liquids from the beasts she eats. She's among those who can easily consume bullsquid, with no ill effects, and so she will chase after them for a 'spicy snack'.
Heat Haze and Fire Breath, her flames are very hot, and generally fan out horizontally rather than in a thin beam or other directions. The actual flames may not appear to go very far, but the heat wave that preceeds them is quite powerful and extends nearly three times that distance. Her accurate flames are around 50 meters, and can crisp-fry anything within about a 20 meter cone. The heat however will dreadfully damage nearly anything, blistering metal and even vulcanized rubber, and vaporizing anything that might be very thin or delicate. If she belches just this heat out sitting around... it's because she's tired of all the gnats, and they all just fizz pop out of the air.
Parentage: Unknown pure Sandwings, perhaps an isolated group, since her features differ.
Origin: original adopted from Tsunami878, lethe colored lines by aprilsilverwolf, Wings of Fire by Tui Sutherland
Other Info: Smart and clever in combat, she likes being of use in testing Magusson's stuff, just like Uriah enjoys helping.
