Name: Alyx Vance - beh tahh'chackt, the Artificer Gender: Female, Straight Age/DOB: 25/alt1990s Origin: MechEarth, New Mexico, Black Mesa Facilities; this Earth has been invaded similarly to others, but lacked Vortigaunts from the Resonance Cascade; Current Location: BMDR Ranch Family: though the names are the same, this Alyx is not from the same dimension as Repurposed Alyx, and has had slightly different relations. Her parents were both killed over time on her world, her mother during the Resonance Cascade, and her father during the Combine incursion Other: This Alyx does live on Rookery Earth now, thanks to traveling through one of their collection-plate portals. It puts her in a position to want to return to her own MechEarth at some point, if they can pinpoint where to focus the portals Height: 5'6 Weight: 135, slight build with strong muscularity Hair: dark brown-black with red highlights, shaggy and thick, usually kept back with a headband or tie, has one strip kept long and dyed striped black/red Eyes: hazel green, large, intelligent and always looking around for details Appearance: light brown skin that tans well in sunlight, has numerous small moles and freckles in sunny times, small scars mainly around fingers and forearms, burn marks; she prefers practical clothing with leather to protect her from both the elements and any dangers, accented with furs to keep warm, and wears the necklace that her mother wore before she died - this necklace has a small shard of a Xenian crystal in the box which had once contained a pearl - the pearl was lost in the Resonance Cascade, so when Alyx was presented it, she put her own twist on the gift. She doesn't necessarily realize its potential for detection by... specific entities. |

| Genetic Abilities: As her local version, Alyx has a degree of technological expertise that goes well beyond 'just education'. She can all but feel through machinery, though because of the specific version of Earth she's from, that technology is often enough 'actually alive too'. Here where it's been ravaged, she can still sense and pull out information from a device or even a computer component with touch. With semi-living machines, or those gifted with artificial life, she can communicate with them, and to a degree (based on how 'strong' their internal intelligence is) command them. This can be done at quite long range, from 50 meters for commanding, to up to 5km for communication as long as she knows the being. | |
| Icarus Processing: None, though she could benefit there are other factors at work and Melissa is unwilling to push an adult into the process for what it might help her. If she has kids... oh yes please. | |
| Skills or Profession: Survivor, mechanic, savant. Even as a very small child she was apt to pick up a broken toy and fix it up with barely more than a few child-like words and caresses. While she does need tools for the big jobs, however, she can still all but snap her fingers and fix your glasses, and now she uses her expertise to fine tune her 'pet' Dog. | |
| Personality: A snarky ray of sunshine in a gritty toxic-rainy world. She doesn't hesitate to speak her mind, and particularly since she's now on another world, she is goal-oriented. She wants to return home, make sure that her planet is freed from the Combine, and maybe repaired a bit from the horrible damage brought by their Citadels. | |

Events or History: key differences between the Repurposed/Rookery - MechEarth has intelligent or at least animate machinery similar to the Girl Genius realm only with a more serious slant. Their world was already rather polluted and gritty. It's a steampunkish slant but with the presence of alien life forms it took a left turn into more weird-west. Everything there has a fine coating of ash, soot, grease stains, or rust. Gordon Freeman does not exist on this world, or if he did he was still at MIT or doing his research, and did not come to Black Mesa. Judith Mossman served his role - including going to their Xen and beating the snot out of Nihilanth. However, she did not come back to their dimension, and may in fact be playing a role for the Combine, as a spy among the humans. *** The robotic creature that dragged itself in to the facility might or might not have been there on MechEarth to start, but it remained when a 6 year old Alyx patted its domed head and stopped it from sparking so badly. Having survived the Resonance Cascade and remained on hand to help fix up the Black Mesa facilities, Dog and Alyx have helped liberate numerous locations and patrol the desert for stray people as well as roaving Combine. It was while they were traveling around their desert - about 15 miles away from the facility in fact - they ... noticed something in the dirt. A dish, like a large satellite dish, only it had not been there before. The world went reverse-color, Alyx's necklace almost burned against her chest. The sky was not the right color when they looked back up at it: it was ... clear? Blue? With white clouds? When was the last time she'd ever actually seen a blue sky? Never, the answer was 'never', her entire life on her world had been under a gritty, gloomy cloud cover filled with the soot and ash of generations of industrial waste. Here on the Rookery, she could breathe. She almost stopped breathing when she saw her first dragon. Mostly because it was dropping out of the sky with a thud onto a creature that had almost snuck up on her. Dog had been a bit wobbly, overheated in the oppressive desert, so he hadn't been able to warn or really do much on their arrival. But now, he perked up. There was a golden glittery bronze winged creature standing over the insect, now pulling chunks of grey-green meat off of it. And, a person that jumped with ease off of its narrow noodle shoulder. The dragon seemed to be enjoying the leg of the antlion, gnawing on it. The person that strode forward was not human. There was no presence of Vortikind on her world, so when she met them for the first time she was a bit scared. However, they seemed to know her father, somehow - his presence in their afterlife is, apparently, pervasive. They knew her name, they knew her father. When she saw the different versions of the Combine as well as Earth, Alyx knew just what needed to be done. *** It wasn't all that long after her arrival, she'd helped fix up Dog's rather impressive engine output so that it wasn't just belching more smog and smoke into the air. He could sleekly patrol and gave off a bit of a rumbling engine purr, though his tick-tick-tacking limb movement was always going to be there. They'd put the Resistance branding on his shoulder part - Alyx met herself, more than once, they compared Dogs. They would go out on patrol, usually when evening was falling, because it was still a bit too hot for the Steamwrex to function without overheating in the broad sunny daylight. They would scrounge for parts, including those they nabbed from wandering Combine patrols. Those here were more... organic on the inside than Alyx expected, on her world, they were almost exclusively robotic. She had occasionally spotted a pair of tall, scary men - ones which reminded her of someone she thought she knew, someone who'd... given her that yellow chunk of Xenian crystal? But they weren't that guy, no - he'd vanished and never returned for whatever reason, after her father was killed. She wasn't really all that hot on meeting either of them, she had better things to do. A tiny yip and a skree-splurch sound that said 'something just bit an antlion grub' alerted Alyx and Dog nearby. In the darker cavern they could see a bright glow, one that was almost the same as the necklace's crystal. Only this one rolled away from the remains of that antlion grub, and was being batted around by a cat-sized animal. "Not an animal!" it said, voice high and a bit like the screeching of rubber tires on cement. "I do not screech!" it screeched. Curious, Dog ticked over to it. It stopped playing with the antlion grub heart, which rolled gently down hill until it vanished. "Steenky," it said, but then came up to Alyx and rubbed her pant leg with is head. "Mine." "I- uhhh." She said, but it had started flapping upwards, eye level, and then sat on Dog's long head shield. "...Hi?" "Hi! Am Aitheil, come with." "You- want to come with us?" "Am. Yup." "Well... okay? You can scout ahead, then, this tunnel has recent antlion activity. We have to be careful."
