Name: Doctor Luther Simmons (Engineering PhD)

Gender: Male, Straight

Age/DOB: 45@Events

Origin: Repurposed Earth, Los Angeles California

Family: Related to a CT Simmons, a Mason living in the early 20th century; no known children

Other: A dependable engineer and transportation expert, depended upon by many to shuttle between facilities, everyone likes him.

Height: 5'10

Weight: 150, slender build, not used to too much activity, but toned enough for dragon work. (particularly after deciding to become a transportation coordinator, to Rapture)

Hair: Black, greying at temples, kept short and occasionally cleverly shaved (he can pretend he was all into that kind of style 'when it was new', no one's gonna know)

Eyes: Light brown, tired

Appearance: Medium brown skinned, usually wearing a lab coat or mechanic's overalls, prefers light colored clothing - contrary to the image he doesn't generally wear a tie any more. Doesn't keep facial hair; his eyebrows are quite expressive

Genetic Abilities: None known

Icarus Processing: None, would not benefit

Skills or Profession: trained as an engineer, having a Ph.D in electrical engineering and computer sciences, and was part of the Black Mesa research team dedicated to the Lambda Teleportation system. Uses those skills to help build the teleporters to other (Repurposed Earths) destinations, and keeps them running. He likes to tinker, but he more enjoys seeing his work pay off - he's not the kind of 'mechanic that works on the same car for 15 years', he wants to see that car drive. He can spot a problem by listening to it, if it's a motor or mechanical device. He views his computer science side as a kind of troubleshooting tool, more than a goal in and of itself.
Post-Events, and during the Rookery phase, he is of tremendous use in the Rapture facility, helping to solve the daunting issues of keeping that place running. It's a full time job, but he also finds time to shuttle people up to the surface - though why they'd want to, they're in the middle of the North Atlantic ocean for goodness' sake...
Personality: Stable, sensible, and steady. If you needed to 'pick two' from the old addage "quality, speed, value" he's your 'quality, value' guy. He wants to get the work done well and using the right parts for the job. And if there aren't parts... he'll make them. Very clever, but directed and focused. He doesn't care much for the administrative side of things, and only dealt with it long enough to get hired and placed properly, at Black Mesa, so any further interference from the admin was less than welcome. He truly enjoys the fact that Lane now foregoes any and all of that paperwork, he can do his job as he sees fit, and doesn't need oversight. Heck, Simmons is the oversight - he's generally the on-hand expert, so why not enjoy that position. He would never be considered either 'bossy' or 'a pushover', he knows just how far to twist that bolt, and that applies to his people skills as well.

Events or History: Fairly typical of any given scientist working for Black Mesa, and among those that Lane directly influenced the prior HR manager to hire, along with Eli and other 'they're not white men!' Spent quite a few years developing and refining the Lambda technology, and that's where he still likes to keep his focus. With the Rookery, he's branched out a little, but even then their tech is similar enough and his job is hardly changed. He's a very good 'standby' for literally all engineering and science experimentation needs.

Because Rapture does need to be connected to the rest of the Rookery in ways other than deep-sea diving-bell technology, he has a semi-permanent suite there, where his dragon can enjoy a proper life, and he can relax listening to the local music scene. Though he had been more or less full time at the Rookery early on, by RY6 or so he is effectively moved to Rapture and only on-call to other spots. He has a suite in the Mercury Estates apartments, apartment 73, which he also uses as a staging point for lab experiments, and has a very nice view of the trenches and rubble of the city where Campanula often drifts by with new goodies to examine.

Dragon

Name: Campanula (kam PAN you luh)
Gender: Male
Size/Shoulder/Length: large, 12' shoulder / 60' long / 175' ws
Colors: Overall purples, desaturated dark Cyan belly scales, bright aqua luminescent markings (typical color, they change), violet to blue-violet back scales, upper legs, and tail, lighter purple markings on lower legs and wingtips, red-violet fins and horns, wingsails fade from red-violet to lighter purple; eyes mostly red
Features: Pure Seawing, four legs with 5 and 4 claws, heel claw on hind, (not visible) webbing for added aquatic motion; very high legs like a crocodile, scaled skin with very large plates on belly from neck to tail tip, plated scales on neck, tiny scales looking like hide on legs and back down tail, webbed fins from head to tail and under neck; external ears, small chin frill, two upcurled short horns; four internal fingered leathery wings, no visible points or joints, wrist thumb with significant claw; thick tail
Powers: Winged Flight, though clearly suited to life in or near the water, Campanula is absolutely able to fly with those great wings of his. He can soar and glide with the best of them, but only for short periods, and he is not nearly as elegant in the sky as some, due to his body shape and heavy tail. He prefers to use them to propel himself through the water, where his agility does not suffer in the slightest. He has extraordinary swimming ability.
Underwater Life, with hidden gills, Campanula can remain under the water indefinitely, though he does enjoy his time top side. He has always been able to maneuver in the deep sea better than on land and considers his gait on the shore 'woeful'. He exclusively eats fish and whatever else comes his way under the sea. He can tolerate extreme cold as well as pressure, making him ideal for transporting items from the surface down to Rapture. His tail, moving side to side rather than up and down, propels him in a sinuous manner, while his wings he can use to turn, burst speed, or even stun prey. On the shore, his tail can absolutely destroy anything that isn't entirely nailed down... and even then...
Verbal Speech, he can use his booming voice to produce speech in English, but prefers Vortigese on this world, as they can hear the better part of his ultra-low frequency sounds so much better than Humans or even other dragons can. He has a decent vocabulary, but prefers to just get to the point of any given conversation.
Water Spray, unlike other Pyrrhan dragons, he doesn't shoot flame, instead having a gout of briny water that shoots from his gut. Particularly if he's on the shore, this can prove very dangerous, because it also includes stomach acid and often enough half-digested food... that can be sharp. He must have prior warning, to use this ability properly, since he can't just 'up and make water in his neck' like other dragons produce flames from their own. Under water, however, this turns into a massive sound-aided burst of pressure, which he can use to stun even large prey, and move in for the kill. He can also use this ability to help fix or move items, it's very precise below the surface. (Note that even other Sea dragons find this to be amazing, they can't do anything like it.)
Parentage: Unknown parents, but he is the grandsire of Spyrogyra, having had a hybrid sea-hive son, who went on to mate with Nerissa. All of them have come to this Earth, it seems they've all got that in common.
Origin: adopted from ChillyStarbucksMocha at Deviantart
Other Info: An experienced dragon, possibly the oldest of those coming from his world. He is an enjoyable sort, likes to encourage exploration and seeking knowledge, which is possibly why he paired up with Simmons in the first place. Though he still occasionally slips up and calls humans 'scavengers', he's not always wrong either, so... He is not talkative, preferring the silence of the seas, but can be rather poetic when describing things. Probably the Vorts influence on him, he absolutely loves hanging out with them when he's on the shore or anywhere on land. He absolutely hated living on land at Black Mesa, the shallow excuse for ponds they had just did not do it for him. But having learned of the Rapture facility's reopening, he was very keen on going there. He keeps the local area clear of any dangers, and with Simmons' guidance he helped recover machinery, parts, and raw materials that had broken off of the place, to keep it clean as well as functional. He retrieves anything that looks like it might be of use to his friend, sometimes he finds some truly impressive bits,... others he doesn't 'get' why anyone wouldn't want a giant half-eaten squid tentacle? You gonna eat that?
