Name: Cyvelle Grynch
Gender: Female, she/her
Age/DOB: don't ask a lady her age (at search) (adult)
Origin (World/Dimension): Twoarth magical realm and possibly elsewhere
Family: 'Yes yes we are sort of related but darling the question is why does it matter?'
Other Interested Folks: a lot of guys are 'interested'
*Height: 5'6" Build: slender and slinky
Hair: Black, short, kept in a fun modern look, when not styled or tucked behind her ears it does tend to start standing up on its own, not into a full mohawk or anything but definitely upwards and in a crest of some sort
Eyes: yellow, somewhat glowing, can be quite large but usually are narrowed and heavily lidded as shown
Appearance: with skin that is lime to grassy green she does stand out a little, even among Twoarth furries and humanoids. She is also slightly furry with a velvet texture to her skin, betraying her nonhuman ancestry. Cyvelle's ears really ought to be pointed and slightly longer than shown but for whatever reason, they are entirely-normal-human looking - and she continually checks that fact by unconsciously leaning her finger onto them casual-like to make sure. Rounded. Short. Good okay. Her face is quite pretty until she starts letting her fangy teeth show, or if she accidentally lets out a yawn, since her mouth is... quite a bit w i d e r than it ought to be. But she still smiles warmly and sometimes has a conspiratorial glimmer in her eyes. Stylish and picky about her wardrobe. Her feet are somewhat larger than you might expect, if she's not wearing boots or somehow magically concealing them, they... fill those boots very differently than human toes might. Also yes if you catch a glimpse of her in a bathing suit she does have a nubbin of a tail. She has a strong voice, including her singing tone which can reach several octaves not typically possible among humanoids. Smells of evergreen tree sap.
Wand If Any: she needs no wand or focus, as she herself is an inherently strong magical being
Created/Updated: 12.5.25 for Lantessama's Winter festival

Magical Skills or Profession: Cyvelle is a natural magic user, and while she can cast book-based or ritual spells, mostly her power sits in understanding the flow of magic through living things, as well as the greater ley-lines of the 'magical magnetosphere'. She can siphon and store energy from magic creatures or plants, or even locations, the practical upshot of which is 'nullifying magic' for a time. It usually comes back, but she also knows that some creatures must maintain a little, so her expertise with this power is coupled with an extensive knowledge of magical animals, plants, and locations to visit where magic flows strongest. See below for her individual skills:

Multidimensional Who-Based Magic - you won't have heard of it, it's ... difficult to hear. But her original home is indeed a tiny speck of a microcosm, an entire dimension on its own but situated well within Twoarth's physical space. Most of her ancestry cannot perform actual magic, but maybe she was born different.
-- Micro and Macro Magic - she can adjust her mass and size on an atomic or sub-atomic scale, though she tends to remain 'where it's more comfortable' - human-sized, in a humanoid-based dimension, or ... Who-sized in the microcosmic parts. She can move between these states innately and with nary a warning, she'll just bip out of view and reappear somewhere else entirely. This is a form of reality shifting that is quite specific, she doesn't really dimension hop so much as use the macro and micro functions to drift a little in space. She is very, very good at discerning how to do this. Also she can take with her a group of beings, plants, items, or whatever, with concentration as long as they're all closely packed near her. Whatever might fit inside a VW Bug, she could easily maneuver from one scale to another, and with difficulty and careful planning, up to about a VW Bus. Those are valid comparison points, she's fond of VWs for some reason.
-- Siphon, Store, and Enhance Magic - so attuned to the flow of magic is she, that Cyvelle can reach out and just take a lil' sip of it, or drink it all in like she's thirsty. This energy is able to be stored for about 24 hours, so she usually doesn't take too much at a time for her own use. She can then replenish her own magical abilities, power up individual uses, or enhance the power reserves of others in need. In this way she can serve as a spigot or valve, distributing magic power to those who require it - for a big event or perhaps constructing a location using magic, fighting off cosmic entities, or, importantly, changing the macro/micro settings on an entire bus full of students and gear for a field trip into another very unexplored microcosmic world. She easily senses where there are power pockets, ley lines, and where there may be gaps, to anticipate needing to stock up before traveling through a dead zone. Her ability is also used if there are injuries or magical healing going on, making the healers jobs much easier since they don't have to worry about conserving their own power to help. When using her ability on living things, she can also remove or reduce the amount of raw magical energy a being has access to, which can in turn diminish its ability to escape, to attack, or defend itself. She uses this sparingly and only as a last resort, however, because she doesn't want to dwindle something to death.
-- Communicate With Magical Sounds - While most of her ancestry and current people live out their teensy-tiny microcosmic lives entirely out of scope of humans and kin alike, she has discovered that her voice is magically attuned and uses the inherent power around herself to boost or change its impact. She has always been good at orchestration and choir tasks for this reason, though she tends to concentrate on acapella rather than instrument-based music. When she sings, you will hear her and if it's for a specific reason or purpose, you will understand her no matter the languages present. She can project her voice across a room or across a dimension of microspace, and leave little sonic pips provided there are ley lines to tap, that allow people to follow her trail for about a week. These are handy when it comes to those field trips! Her ability also is able to convey queries, warnings, and intention to animals that may not otherwise be verbal.

Song-Based Magic +5 Cyvelle instructs not only normal choir and song courses, but how to turn a magical text or spell into a song that still functions as its original intention. Adding her voice to any enchanting chorus will sweep the performance into standing-ovation level sounds, and weave purpose into the words or emotion into its narrative. She is incredibly good with flash mobs and musical theater...
Micro-Macrocosmic Navigation +4 Adept with mapping locations based on how they vibrate, Cyvelle detects and moves between these dimensions and dedicates those echoes to memory. While she can 'draw' a map to and from locations locally or in the same size space, it rapidly becomes hard to do when you're able to change to the size of an atom and be propelled 500 miles away just by coming back to full size. And yet: this is what she does! Her maps and directions have been studied by Black Mesa and Aperture locally, though they cannot reproduce her methods of actually using them to get places.

Strong Memory +4 When you have to learn to dodge subatomic particles to get to your gramma's house you remember how they move and where you last saw mass and matter... She can apply this to macrocosmic streets and magical lines alike. Also she's never once forgotten how to pronounce a student's chosen name, and can spot where magic is being changed by its intonation versus how its 'originally intended' sound should be. (This is how she works with making written spells into songs.)
Instruction and Introductions +3 First encounters matter, and she loves making the right impression straight away. This is why she directs class performances, and sometimes is tapped for teacher-parent meet-ups. When you don't realize that your kid is magically gifted, it's best to make sure that everyone can see how important their future is! Her students truly enjoy her methods, as she is engaging and attentive to their own questions or abilities, and encourages their creativity, enhances their magic to give them 'a taste' of their potential, and never hesitates to help someone who is struggling.
Inspire Others Into Song +3 Her humming or little quiet lyrical noises are very catchy, and she knows it. This is another part of being able to whip up a suddenly-perfect rendition of We Are The World, or make sure everyone in the musical on stage is timed correctly for their solos. When she works with the very young students at Wonder's Wonders, she can 'Whistle While We Work' and have everyone back from recess in careful lines and paying attention!

| Knacks |
Fashionable +3 Even if she's not putting on the ultra-chic or famous brands, she's always putting together the right combination of outfits, colors, and makeup when needed. Definitely works with the costume department for performances! Also she will just up and drape kids with her own stuff, and let them keep it if they like it, which most of them think is super nice.
Is Ambiguously Non-Human +3/-2 Generally Mz Grynch will avoid taking students or people to her home town, or even her exact home dimension of smallness, because she herself reverts to her 'who-ville' styled appearance. She is still green, and still furry, but more so in both ways, as well as bearing longer fur-tipped ears, and very distinctive fangs and feet. Some folks might find those features endearing or even attractive, but others may be turned off by this 'glamour' she enables when she is residing in the human-sized realm. It's unclear what she'd look like at larger macro scales. Given her musical work, she's been 'accused' or merely 'asked about' whether some of her ancestry is Siren or something. She can't say, she's not entirely sure herself. She'll have to find that one lady Nash hangs out with to know for sure...
|
|
| Personality: as above, she is kind, attentive, and very active in the lives of the young people around her. That's not to say she is completely without her vices or adult-oriented moments! She enjoys carrousing around with other professors and staff when the school year draws to a close, and yes they sing the bawdiest of things up on that karaoke stage... She does keep her own secrets, sometimes merely replying to a bold and invasive question with a sly wink - but also with an exposed fang that all but gleams with 'you should stop asking now'... She is very popular among adult or young adult men, adding to the 'Is She A Siren' question. |
|
Events or History: There was a day that she realized that there was more to her world than just the suburb of Who-Ville she lived in. That day was a long time ago. Longer than you'd expect for someone who looks as young and vital as she does. Her own family doesn't really feature much in her life, so when she hints at her heritage, she is as unsure as you are. People don't really ask those kinds of questions there. 'Are you partly human, are you a siren, are you really related to THE Grinch?' Well, who knows? maybe? yes but distantly? That green furry skin of hers certainly is found across a couple generations back on her father's side, but there's also the complication of 'Whos Don't Magic Much' either. Perhaps it's just Twoarth's version. Maybe in other dimensions they don't or can't come magically like she is.
Doesn't much matter! She's here, she's made of song and magic, and wants to make sure that every voice, no matter how small, is heard.
***
There was a field trip recently that seemed to be fairly normal, not even a multi-macro one. Since Cyvelle is adept at keeping young children in cohesive groups so that their chaperons could get them from point A to point Z, she was more or less waiting for the call to get everyone back on the bus when something caught her eye. They were down by the beach, all the way down in Crescent City, for one of the magical-culture exchange days. Mermaids and baby kraken alike were frolicking in the shallows, under observation by numerous lifeguards.
But there were eyes on her, and she knew it. Not merely the tourists who thought she was quite hot, or the locals who kept wondering when all these pesky kids would be going home so they could get back to surfing. She knew that those eyes were quite low to the ground, so when there was a moment... she shifted downwards to about a foot tall. Her ears grew their little points, a bit more fur. But she gave a little trilling whistle, and it was answered from the shade of a shrub near the parking lot.
"And who might you be?" She asked, and the pink snout that snuffled toward her paused and the face tilted.
"I thought you were bigger?"
"I was!" She replied, "we've got a lot of kids coming through, are you going to be all right under here?"
The creature, with her own furry tipped ears, looked away just a little. "I'd... like to come with you? The sand is in my toes, though."
With that said, Cyvelle smiled widely - one of those toothy smiles that unnerved her human friends - and vanished again. But she had only been gone for a moment, when the little pink Terigon heard or rather felt a vibration. All the sand tumbled from her fur, from between her nails and their sheaths, and her feathers. Also a range of weak feather dust, loose fur... When Cyvelle showed up again it was at her normal Humanoid height, and she reached down and made grabby hands.
"Now, you didn't tell me your name, little dear."
"I'm Poishoutier!"
"Little shouter, that's perfect," Grynch replied, and, chuckling, went back to the trio of busses which now had scattered kids in front of them.
***
During one of the winter holidays (yes they'd just gone to the beach! It's SO-CAL!) Shout and Cyvelle discovered a faint trail of magic, in the shape of tiny snowflakes, little hoof-like prints, and jingling. Where could it lead?
Lantessama, of course!

Powers: Winged Flight, Poishoutier is not really a strong flier, but she can definitely use her wings to balance on tree limbs or at the top of shelves, and propel herself upwards to run near vertically. She can break a fall from a reasonable distance, up to about 3 stories high, but struggles with maintaining active flight
Teleportation local and nexus, her movement is not restricted by flight, though! Shout is good with close range teleporting across rooms, up stairwells or elevator shafts, or from roof to roof outdoors. She definitely knows where she is when they are moving sub-atomically, with almost as good mental mapping as her friend Cyvelle! Her nexus teleportation is swift but exhausting, but she can reach known locations with only a little rest afterwards
Verbal Speech and Telepathy, though small, her voice can grow three sizes and she can project clear words over the voices of a rowdy class. Her mind is clear and bright, but not sharp, like a gentle warm light in the darkness
Parentage: below
Origin: Terigon Pairings at Nidus Caeligenus by Phe
Other Info: Shout now patrols Wonder's halls and gives quiet but directed commentary to his friend Cyvelle that only she can hear, making sure that she knows whether any students are wandering where they shouldn't...
