Name: Ruthie Leynham

Gender/Preference: Female, she/her, bi, leaning to prefer men

Age/DOB: 33 in 1855; 7th day, Month of Wind

Faction: Independent, legitimate Shop Owner

Family: a Cullero tobacco family, currently all still living there; mother and father, two older brothers; Cousin Ruben Leynham lives and works in Cullero

Height/Build: 5'5" / a little on the chunky side, and only strong in the torso from cleaning up and moving boxes around

Hair: light brown, silky, thin and straight; kept up in a bun with stylish feathers, clips, or hats; doesn't go much farther than shoulder blades when down

Eyes: dark and shiny brown, large, eager, and pretty

Appearance: light brown skin that bronzes in the sun of her home Serknos of course! Some people pay to have a tan this delightful! Always smiling, and always in style; has a wide variety of clothing and you won't see her wear the same thing twice in a week. Her voice is a little on the shrill side, but can sound as smooth as needed if she's in important company

"She seeks to live up to her family's expectations, but also to her own. Some day she will realize she did so long, long ago."

Skills and Occupation: Ruthie's skill set is geared toward seeking out good deals, she's very shrewd and has a strong grasp on math and business. She does come from wealth, but intends to make her own here in Karnaca. She is likely to play cards and pretend she is bad at it, only to lure someone into making mistakes, she gambles like a demon and is extremely good at it

Residence: Recently purchased a location quite near the Aventa Station, which prospers thanks to visiting tourists as well as the locals

Notable Possessions: a wide apartment directly over the cellar-style shop below; the courtyard around it is so close to the rail station you can hear the clever rail cars come and go. She's become very attuned to the ‘incoming' sounds, because that almost always means people looking for gear, goods, and knickknacks. All of those things can be found in the shelves and tables in the shop, you break it you buy it. At this time the shop is well stocked for the tourism of the area, and has a leftover stock of toys, apparently the prior owner of this location had been a toy maker. Perhaps she could ship them down to the mines where all those kids seem to work to keep them happy. (They're so ... grimy, aren't they?) Her apartment is stacked with boxes that she has either left unopened or doesn't want to try lugging into the shop below, but most of them contain the same goods as appear on the shelves. She drapes them with nice cloth if anyone is coming over. The windows are always open, in an attempt to let some amount of light into the room, since the only light for the shop comes from gas and candle sconces and she really does want to get some better lighting in here it's always so dim people can hardly see the goods!

Magical Preferences or Abilities: Oh my no, I'm no heretic!

Personality: obviously prefers those which have good taste and fine wares on their shopping list; she knows that there are lesser groups running around, won't someone clean them up? Oh wait they have Coin? Do they ? In that case... Ruthie is apt to ignore where Coin has come from, as long as it wasn't stolen directly from her or someone she knows. Wealth is what you make of it, after all! Chipper, alert, intense, but seemingly a little on the vapid side. She will absolutely talk your ear off, but equally loves listening to gossip and stories from distant lands - with her shop being located so close to the Station, these stories flow like a good wine, which she also likes. Is quite devout, except for that sort of pesky ‘Wandering Gaze'. Without that, why, her shop would be dreary! She is a bit oblivious to the fact that most of her enjoyments stem from the Roving Feet of others, and their Lying Tongues - she loves that gossip and far-flung stories

Likes and Dislikes: positively loves fine clothing and looking pretty, though never to the extent that some of the royals or noble classes might. She is definitely fashion-forward, preferring pants in an era when ladies might still be wearing skirts or dresses. Those stern Abbey men - and more over those scary Sisters - could use a makeover, but she is frankly terrified of crossing them openly. But she's no meek and silent servant, she is a merchant, and will stand for herself as needed. She would not turn in a witch... as long as their coin is presented first

Fears or Interruptions: if her family were to be harmed, she would just crumble. She may live a thousand miles away from Cullero but her heart is still with them!

History: born in Cullero where her family made its fortune in tobacco. She herself doesn't smoke those same cigars, because ‘they make her clothing smell altogether nasty'. Though truth be told the fish markets and grit of Karnaca ... aren't much better in the regard. She traveled around the Isles before settling back in Serkonos, and when the shop was listed for sale she grabbed it up eagerly using her family's fortunes and promising to prosper and make even more
