Kingdom of the Winds |
![]() |
Though it is hardly inhabited, due to the extreme storm activity that begins in the nearby Stormshallow sea, the Winds is an extraordinarily beautiful place. The rolling hills sport low, twisted trees but plenty of them, a carpet of amazing greenery runs for thousands of miles across the coast. Although ships do travel through the Stormshallows, it is a very dangerous thing to do in any craft not carefully made and manned. The Shallows are often shrouded in rain, clouds, and dangerous waves. There are large shark-like fish that swim in the deeper areas, feeding on whatever happens to drift their way from the tremendous storms. Occasionally, pieces of crafts, large carcasses, bizarre artifacts and anything else that has wound up in the storm-tossed Shallows, will drift up to the shore and beach to be found by any brave soul willing to bear the brunt of the winds. Stormbreak Reef is a long series of low islands which demark the outer rim of the Shallows. Each of these isles has its own distinct greenery, and it has been postulated that they were originally colonies or farms for the inhabitants before the Dragons defeated the Gods. The only known port within the Stormshallows is known as The Noose. A number of different people live on the narrow peninsula, all of whom are rather disagreeable. Refugees, outlaws, castaways and escapees of all sorts seem to wind up there, and they do not take kindly to any visitors. Piracy is centered here, any ships heading purposefully toward the Noose are generally pirate ships. Though they are considered outlaws, these Pirates are also some of the finest shipbuilders and seamen of the world. Their talent for avoiding the dangers found in Stormshallows is known by all who travel the oceans, and to some degree is respected by every ship’s crew and captain. |
