High Prince Almiron

Born to a wildly beautiful chemist/model and her young and equally beautiful Prince, Almiron has always prided himself upon being the best of both worlds. He is very smart, in fact more intelligent than most people really give him credit for, since he's rather a froofy young man.

He loves fashion, like his mother, and has his father's poise and ease near people. Both his parents have exotic looks to them, and Almiron is no exception to their genes. His skin is a perfect pale cream, hair is a strange shimmering opalescent shade, and his eyes have a violet-cast to their rich dark blue color. Perhaps most oddly of all, Almiron adopts his mother's tattooed facial appearance, with brilliant white triangles on his forehead, and under his cheeks. They serve to draw even more attention to his stunning face.

Almiron's education has always been primary to him. He is exceptional in many ways, highly empathic and keenly aware of his surroundings. He appeared to have a knack for telling weather patterns as a young child, and this has long since blossomed into more than a hobby for the young Prince. His education was originally of course intended to groom him for a lordling status, since his father is a Prince himself. But Almiron soon found that he equally enjoyed working with cloth, material and tailoring like his mother.

He enjoys playing with colors, but has sadly little skill in painting or sculpture. Where he excells is similar to his mother, in chemistry and chemical changes for dyes and the like. He uses his intellect and is not afraid to get in and experiment with small amounts of chemicals to see if something will make a new color, or just blow up.

He is also quite adept at choosing room layouts and lighting. He will frequently enter rooms only to throw open a curtain and over-dramatically insist that it was far too dark in there for him to flourish.

When his younger sister Dominica was born, Almiron was seven years old. They did not meet properly until he was 13, as their mother was more interested in travel and caring for her new child than trying to remain in a Castle.

There was no trouble between the two, in fact Almiron is rather protective of his sister, but knows she can take care of herself. She's the physically stronger and larger of the pair, in fact, so they operate as a team knowing each other's strengths and weaknesses.

Almiron's duties to the Castle have always included greeting visitors and giving tours, so he knows the ins and outs of the whole Dun Keiba locale. It is easy for him to lose pursuers, and sometimes it seems as though he can make light bend around himself to keep to the shadows. Even though he's quite the bright and very visible young man, he does enjoy his privacy at times, and will ditch people at random if need be, to be alone.

His knowledge of Dun Keiba is extensive, though one might say his interest in history or the other Castles is somewhat limited. The thought of war or conflict makes him cringe - he is far more suited to the leisure side of being a High Prince. He continues to greet visitors, albeit now from his Drak's back, and has been 'forced' to visit the other Castles in the area in order to gain prestige among their folk.

When Almiron was 14, he was Judged to be appropriate for pairing with a Drak. He stood as an aspirant three times on Dun Keiba's deep cavern sands, until at last, at age 17, he paired with his Opal Lauvakil - the only mutation born on Dun Keiba's sands in more than 200 years.

Almiron's pairing brought out a remarkable responsibility in the young man, which, while it was certainly present before, showed off his true calling, that he was in fact a High Prince born. There was no doubt that he would inherit the Castle's duties from his father.

When his sister Dominica paired four years later, it was decided that to keep the place up properly they would be allowed to run Dun Keiba together. This suits them fine. Their dragons will not mate to one another, instead they have paired off with different mates on occasion, and allow their riders whatever pleasures their own pairs can give. Both are very picky about their partners.

Almiron's gender preferences run loosely in both directions - he is more concerned with talent, intelligence and beauty, in that order. He is remarkably vain, but tends to forget that others might see this as a vice rather than a virtue. He openly flaunts any partners he has, and woe betide those who criticize his choices. Only his half-sister can do that.

While paired to Lauvakil, Almiron's keen eyesight and sensitivity to weather patterns earned them ranks quickly among their peers. They often still scout around the edges of Dun Keiba's realm, making sure that everyone in the area is safe when hurricanes or other storms come through. He has also demonstrated a certain talent for locating aspirants, but Almiron does not wish to become a Judge of such things because he has so many other duties already. Chances are likely that a newcomer to Dun Keiba will greet him anyway, and if they show any potential, he will Judge them on the spot.

One dark side to this bright man is that he does have a stronger ability with empathy than usual. This has made him keenly aware of plots against him or the Castle, and he is not afraid to use an amount of coersion or even heavy empathic warnings to keep the peace. When he was young, only around 10, he mentally 'fried' a man whose purpose in the Castle was to murder his father. The man still sits in their prison, tended daily because his mental faculties have been stripped from him. Almiron has vowed never to use this strange power again, but the temptation may arise - and the need.

Almiron dislikes fairy draks - for no good reason other than they distract from his own beauty? He claims their little claws scratch his perfect skin. Perhaps if he'd wear something more than he does on a regular basis he'd not have to worry about that little detail. He tends to wear little clothing because his skin is truly sensitive, it's not a froofy joke.

Name: Lauvakil
Gender: Male
Size/Shoulder/Length: medium-small (appears much larger due to upright standing) 8'6" h b / 36' l / 40' and 36' ws
Colors: Opal; body pale pearlescent pink and rainbow tints; wingsails slightly darker and more metallic with an oily sheen, mane and tail tuft similar
Features: Dun Keiba drak, bipedal mainly with longer hind legs and shorter more nimble forelimbs, with 3 clawed feet, adding thumb on hands; four evenly spaced leathery wings with a single visible finger; head is angular and has two long curved 'horns'; furry mane extends fully from head to tail tip along spine
Powers: Winged Flight, Lauvakil is very good at high altitude flight, and flying in difficult conditions. Even if his rider isn't all that happy about being up there in a big storm he'll do it because bragging rights. Unpredictable winds, hard rain, even dense fog or blizzard conditions - not that most of those things appear near Dun Keiba - are easily flown through for this drak
Portal Production, portals are easy peasy for this unusual drak, and he can create and hold one open almost indefinitely, with concentration. He does need to be flying for them to be created, he cannot make one near or on the ground, but beyond that restriction they can appear or disappear at will. He has flown extensively and has a very keen memory for places and conditions, and enjoys traveling with others to get their impression of the distances and altitudes. He works very well with altitude-based portals as well, checking the weather up high or in another area at his own current flight height before moving through them
Verbal Speech, strong empathic link, unlike many other breeds of drak, those who are from Dun Keiba do seem to have a much bigger mental component to their bonding process and Lauvakil is no exception. He can and does speak to others with a very faint lisping s-sound but he is capable of listening in through his rider using the human's own telepathy just in case there's something he catches that Almiron does not
Acid Spit, though messy and dangerous, the opal drak has had his share of run-ins with Nex, animals of all sorts, mobs and bandits, and whatever else comes their way. Though he's not 'first on the fighting line' if needed he will join a group to fend off larger threats. His acid can burn biological material into blisters with just a spatter, so he must make sure to keep his spittle to a minimum in polite company
Parentage: Unknown, ak- -il from local stock; progenitor
Mate/Offspring: Somehow, Lauvakil has not yet produced any draklings, we'll have to change that at some point
Origin: Dun Keiba progenitor
Other Info: Though he's typically a wait-and-see or watch-and-learn type, Lauvakil is no slouch and learns much from those quiet moments. If he was more sneaky and devious he would probably be a prankster, but he's got much too much riding on his behavior - both literally and figuratively - to be silly like that. He isn't as full of himself as his rider
