Bearis sat behind her desk, keenly aware of the pressures of her life. Blue Striker sat curled up on her desk, blocking her view of certain paperwork. That was just as well, she didn't want to play with it anyway. Since the last flight held at the Den, she'd been feeling a little weird. Not so strange that she couldn't help but remember that she'd felt this way before... But she just didn't realize where or when. Then, sleepy-headed Striker gave a cute trill, picked his head up, and alerted Baeris to an arrival to the Den. "Who is it, little guy?" It is Myrah'Care and Blakoreth, came the crooning response from Dulath. She, happily brooding over several eggs on the hot sands, wanted to get up and greet the dragons herself, but didn't want to leave her nest in the hands of anyone just yet. "Oh, good," Baeris said, standing, "I've been meaning to talk to Mystic about-" Mystic is not with them, she is pregnant and cannot travel safely. Myrah'Care has something very important to tell you, though! Baeris stopped in mid-stride, blinked, and said, "she-what?" Myrah tells me that Mystic is pregnant, and she didn't want to bring her anyway, because she wanted to ask you herself. It seemed that Dulath was annoyed that Baeris didn't already know this stuff. "Ask me what?!" Baeris laughed, and headed to the landing areas. There, the pair of large dragons from the Warren were pacing about a little, but they stopped and trumped a greeting when they saw her. Baeris Kshau! Myrah said, her voice silken and happy. We have a very happy announcement and, I would like to ask a favor... If I may? Baeris laughed, standing on the steps below their landing. Her black hair lay unbound at her shoulders, and her work clothing was slightly snug around her hips today - perhaps that was what was nagging at her. She was getting fat. "Anything for you," Baeris said. "Now, what is it?" Myrah'Care and her mate Blakoreth told her their plan. First, they surprised Baeris with the news that Mirah's odd infertility after her last flight had been conquered. That itself made Baeris quite happy, she'd hoped that her own scientific labs could be of help, but it was also during a rather busy time for both the Warren and the Den. But now that it had been solved, Myrah'Care could produce proper Geperna offspring again. And that, Baeris was told, was the favor. "Of course you can use the Den for your flight!" Baeris laughed. "And I will get on calling those who have any of your siblings. Don't worry. We'll find some of them, at least. I hope..." Elsewhere - very much elsewhere - a trio of fliers swooped around in the air under a huge dome. The air in this dome had its own weather system, it wasn't always pristine. Some of the weather shapers in the ship that dome was built into would occasionally shift it into snow, sleet, dryest wind or whatever their fancy suited them. But today, it was effectively a bright sunny warm day, with thermals and occasional breezes to chill the skin. The skin on one particular flier was a rich metallic violet-brown color, covered in a short sheen of fur. Her catlike body had big feathered wings, and at the moment this creature did not even have arms so much as front paws. Victory was a shapeshifter after all, and her love of flight was made easier to accomodate when she didn't have the upper torso of a person to get in the way of her wings. Ryxa and Care, her two Geperna dragons, also flew about with abandon. They had lived her for decades, they were among the first of the dragons aboard the Zekiran's ship. Suddenly, Virah'Care, the deep green female, paused. Her wings faltered, as she concentrated on something else. As if from very far away, something brushed her mind. Her white partner grazed her wings, playing with her as she dropped from the sky onto the ground. "What is it?" Asked Victory, regaining her human-half appearance and winging down to the ground to join her friend. "What's wrong?" There is nothing wrong - something is happening and I want to go! "Go? Go where?" Victory worried. They had been on one or two planets recently, dragon gathering, but this seemed a bit more serious. It will be like going back home, Virah'Care said, her dark green skin begining to shine as though there were a real sun glimmering on it. "But - we had to leave the Aery, it was ..." Victory said, sadly, "You know I don't like talking about this..." It is all right, Viull'Ryxa said, we will be making our home anew. My partner will fly for me. At last! "... But she's... Oh, OH! You mean like, fly, that way? Really?" Really, the proud male white gloated. And we will get to see my sister again! It has been since we hatched, that I've seen her. I hope others will be there... Virah'Care twittered and spread her wings. Victory glanced around, and noticed that her father was standing near the dome's entrance watching her. His blue dragon, Ruarth, walked out. Compared to the two Geperna dragons, he was tiny. Then again, compared to many dragons, Ruarth wasn't big. But even next to Virah'Care, he was small. "Ruarth can guide you if you need that," Vanya said. "We were just there. I'd like to go back, see what's been going on since we flew." With relief, Victory nodded and told her father that would be perfect. Now if only they could find the others... |
