Name: Spen
Gender: Male, he/him, straight
Age: 17 (?? prior to arrival on Dragondeep, was a child)

Fur: pale beige, hardly present, but like the top of a cat's nose
Marking color: strong red
Ears: medium-short with smooth tips
Face markings: paired rounded and extended triangles between eyes on forehead, and chin wedge
Hair: pale gold, thinner than twin's, kept short, with marking-color tips.
Eyes: medium green, large
Clothing: red and wine shades with layers and can wear boots since his feet aren't pawed
Height: 6' and broadly built

Species: Gelgelan-Human hybrid
Genetic History: royal parents Sean and Sapadt, born shortly before the abrupt move to Dragondeep
Family: so many. Specifically twin sister Sonoma

Born in the royal keep, and was just a toddler in the halls when they shook with magical resonance.

Personality: genial and kind, helpful, which is a bit strange given his magic; he's observant and will cater to those around him if there are things to be done requiring teamwork

Dollmaker: Azalea's Snow Queen Scene

The magic he is most known for is negation of magic and mental psionics. He can entirely negate weak powers or spells in a narrow sphere (about 10 meters across with his head in the center) but also can concentrate effort directly on a mage, effect, or location up to 50 meters away from him that acts very strongly. He has a mild telepathic ability which allows him to communicate in simple expressive ideas up to 100 meters away to any intelligent mind, and can always connect with his twin sister at virtually any distance including off-world, and to a lesser degree his other siblings to about 10 miles.

He has a favorite weapon in the form of a small crossbow which he enjoys hunting with, and has been trained with a long sword for personal defense though he hardly needs it.

Story shared with Sonoma

Both Spen and his twin sister knew that they were not particularly cut out to be royal leaders. He, because he lacked a lot of directness to his magic and didn't think 'an off switch' was enough to be throne-worthy; his sister because she was far too easily distracted and moved by emotions not her own. Neither of those things lent themselves to sitting in a grand palace hall passing judgement or being on the battlefield defending a territory. With Spen's negation power perhaps that battle might be nudged a little, picking and choosing among mages or powerful psionics to cut out of the picture, but that also relied upon him being far too close to them to be protected by the rest of their own forces. Sonoma did not care for such things, even a small fight in a school yard caused her to be a bit uppity and reactive for hours after the fact.

"It's like a ripple in a pond but it won't stop," she once complained. And if there was one failing that her twin had, it was that he couldn't negate this... It wasn't a power by the time it got into her mind like that. If it was an attack, if it was aimed at her by some person purposefully, maybe. But all he could ever do would be cuddle and reassure her, or try and lift her mood with a joke or finding a tidbit of dessert to coax her out of a fearful shell.

Likewise, Sonoma knew that her brother was all but held captive by his power's limited range. And: what would happen if there weren't any mages? If it was just an army, just a bar brawl in a regular part of town, no magic involved? At times, he admitted he would rather just not have a power to taunt him like this. But she assured him that it was still quite useful, just not in big battlefield conditions. "After all there are schools filling with young Usagi," she told him once, "that are just learning their own skills - and they might set each other on fire, or freeze them... or--"

"Reanimate all the dead mice and rats!" they both exclaimed laughing... Because at least one of their own siblings had done exactly that when he was younger!

There were always siblings around, both older and younger, for this pair to bounce ideas off of. Some of them were quite a bit older - born possibly centuries before? Their parents were immortals; a revived and reconstructed necromancer human, and a powerful spellcasting usagi who claimed to have been across three dimensions before even realizing it. The twins had been just old enough when their own world seemed to be ripped up and reassembled. Was it like when King Sapadt had been reconstructed out of bits of ancient dust and bone from his own grave?

Neither of these twins had any necromantic inclination, and both would kind of give a little shudder at the thought. That, and when that sibling whoopsied all those dead creatures the clattering and the smell of it all as the hoarde skittered through gaps in the walls right up to him... Yeah, that's a thing that stuck with them in not a great way. So they both preferred the ways of the living, rather than the command of the dead that many in their family had. They'd learned from others how to even start utilizing their rare powers, hearing about how Ui and Chirin's honed their abilities to either subdue or enhance other powers straight from the source - though they weren't royals, the pair had become part of the Guard early in their lives and had such stories to tell!

Adept students otherwise, the twins learned the history of their old world, but also the broadening of the scope into this new one. Dragondeep had an appreciable number of sentient breeds, and they were interested in all of them. Since they were Usagi hybrids they knew they would always be able to 'pass' as Wyldkin among those beast-people, and with just a little help from hats and ribbons or backpacks to cover their tails, they would be able to pass as Human of whatever sort with tribal 'tattoos' on their faces. There were so many other people though! Lumin and Rotwood Elves and Barons and Vampires and Necromancers - not just the magic type but the species whose own long-lived bodies were humanoid but different enough to be obviously not humans. Even Clockworks and Dragonkin...

And dragons. Oh how this world had dragons! But they were actually fewer and farther between than even those found bonded to the royal family at Gelgela! Truth be told, the local dragons didn't much care for the ones that were being muscled into their territory - and they did know. With the royal couple actively seeking ties with those political powers to the south on the mainland, they did have to show off the fact that all of them, the king and queen first of all, were dragon riders of dragons not born in the depths of this planet's vast oceans.

"Perhaps that's ... where we should concentrate?" Spen suggested, one afternoon as the pair watched the younger students at the keep practicing their martial arts and defensive moves. That children learned such things was rote here, and they both knew that other cultures might not have a positive view of it. But the Usagi side of their culture was very strong, and had compelling reason to want to be able to defend on a personal and cultural level; their own identity was almost entirely lost until Sean and Sapadt got together.

"On the way that our dragons might conflict with the local ones? That seems... Dangerous." Sonoma said, distractedly; feeling the one child down there that just Did Not Like Getting Hit. She called out from their balcony to the instructor, simply nodding her head toward the blue-furred child, and offering a hand signal that meant 'enough'. The instructor did as bade by his princess, took the child aside, and made the decision that he wouldn't need to come back to this class and find another to occupy his time. The boy's relief was strong enough that it reached Sonoma in waves, and she let that feeling smother the prior distress.

"Yes, but we both can do things that would help in diplomatic settings." Spen glanced away, "just not battlefield ready ones," he added in a mutter. Sonoma elbowed his side gently and they smiled at each other to confirm they were both okay with that.

"I'd worry that it might become a battle, is all," Sonoma admitted.

"But if the dragons themselves participated in the efforts..." Spen hinted, "I mean, obviously not all of the family's Guard are really what I'd call 'ready for diplomatic talks', obviously." She caught his strong image of a couple of those ragged-winged half-undead types that their elder sibling Saichu had bonded. She suspected that those dragons would cause far more strife in a conference than anyone wanted. They weren't evil, far from it, but the twins had heard enough of the history of this world that the local dragon population would surely find it an offense that they even existed.

Sonoma and Spen dedicated time to learning more about those local dragons. They had to be very careful about it: going to locations where they weren't known to be the royal children, which also had open libraries or classes, or even just a good smattering of young dragons who were willing to be engaged in a discussion without the baggage of wondering why they wanted this information.

A year had gone by before they knew it, and when they turned 17, returning to their home much the wiser about those local dragons as well as a vast array of other inhabitants, their family celebrated in the best way they knew how. Presented with their favorite honey-slathered pastry sweets and a good batch of 'clothing, grooming equipment, and trinkets' from many members of the family, Sean and Sapadt subsequently introduced them to a small woman waiting patiently with a group of diplomats and visitors from other worlds.

It was clear she was a rider, not only by the gear she wore, but that she could hold her own among this batch of wildly disparate humanoids in the courtyard. And, of course, because the violet-tinted blue dragon behind them kept looking toward her and chirping excitedly. If anything was obvious to Sonoma it was that she was more at ease chatting with the dragon about how nice the little rabbit-people seemed to be as they clumped up around him, than the somewhat-stiff and too-formal greetings that the diplomatic team offered the King and Queen as they all approached.

Sapadt offered to show the group around the area, while Sean prepared her twins by flicking her hand to summon their travel bags. They thankfully didn't appear to have anything breakable in them, as they plopped with a gentle thud from a portal to their rooms. The Queen always seemed so at ease with other dragon riders, and this blue rider looked quite relieved when she neared.

"They talk so much," she breathed, "I know it's their job but they could at least wait for the right place..."

"I don't think these two will have that problem," Sean chuckled. She introduced this rider as Ciannha, and her blue Teraiseth. The dragon managed to pry himself away from the gentle touches and eager giggling of the courtyard kids, who knew to scatter when they saw a dragon start to move. They would be headed to Nidus Descendi, formally Searched now as that blue gave his approval to the pair (and probably to several of those too-young others that had rushed up to greet him).

"Be sure to keep your journals up," Sean asserted to the pair, who nodded. "We will be there for the hatching, not to worry." She smooched them both on their velvet foreheads, "your father will probably bring us, we'll see what happens after."

After the hatching in other words. Perhaps they would need some time with their hatchlings, if they impressed or bonded. The creeping thought of 'if' and not 'when', was both a blessing and a curse to every person who'd ever stood upon sands, wasn't it? Sonoma knew better than to assume one way or the other, Spen merely hoped it would be their time.

They would obviously return at some point after the hatching, but whether that was with young dragonets, alone, or with fully adult dragons? Only their experience at Descendi would tell that.
