Ferilon Candidates for Dragons!

CharnBat was treated to exotic foods and drinks, libraries where she could hardly read the texts, and discussions aplenty. It was still hard for this forest-born creature to adjust to so many people around her. Really, it was all she could do not to just blast them all with itches and rashes so they'd leave her be. She wanted to read a little. Very little - she discovered that the Zekiran texts she'd learned from before looked nothing like these at the Warren. Frustrated, she sought out some isolated rocks past the woods, and rested her head. The calls of birds and small animals made her think of her years on Zekira, and what all she'd be changing to have come here. It was not insane, she reminded herself. It was sensible to want protectors and companions. They would do this. It would actually prove to be fun. If only she'd let it! Eventually, during the lunch time (how these humanoids liked to organize their meals - why?! Why not just eat when you were hungry?) one day the call went out. The eggs - long standing on their warm dunes - were stirring and ready to hatch! CharnBat thought twice about just bolting out there, she had food to finish! Apparently there were a few others who felt the same way. Reluctantly, they set out to the hatching dunes. It wasn't that there had been false starts or claims of the eggs hatching in these months, but there were always rumors and people thinking if they wished it hard enough, the hatching would occur. Well finally it was. Assembled, and now watched by dozens of locals, CharnBat waited with the other official candidates. The eggs bulged and broke, and finally one spilled out a green who showed little signs of wanting to rush out and find her bond. A moment or two later, two more eggs split and a red and yellow pair came out. They both chose, and yet more eggs were breaking. A hyperactive red and a slinky blue came from the next shells, and a surprising silver (were they rare? elusive? everyone seemed happy to see one, so CharnBat thought highly of it). The red stomped at her shell shards, and then sped away to the green who had yet to even bother looking over the candidates. The red pounced, landing with a silly noise and then abruptly chastised by the green. She was obviously in no mood to put up with that! Apparently, though, they both got it into their heads to rush toward the candidates. Chasing after her red sister, the green caught up with her as they broke into the mass of waiting candidates. But everyone had to move out of their way, as they started chasing one another, circling CharnBat. Around and around and around they went... "Stop that!" CharnBat said, annoyed and faintly dizzy. They could run like little Steed colts at this early stage? She hadn't known that! But they were still running, so the naga-shaped scale-skinned ferilon immortal stuck her paw hand out and yelled again. The green smacked into it, right full on the chest. The red plunged in turn, and they both fell in an ungraceful pile atop their new bond. "Vemmel, Halasca, get off me!" The red, Vemmel, complied with difficulty as her wings and tail were somewhat thoroughly wrapped around CharnBat's midsection. Halasca batted her eyes. It was not my fault, she wanted to get here first. She wasn't looking where she was going, of course. I would have stopped, if only she'd slow up. Halasca bemoaned her sister, who remained a bit aloof after that. They both however dug in hurriedly when they were served their meals of fresh cut meat! CharnBat joined them, something that the kitchen folk were a little put off by... But the three of them would be inseperable in the weeks that came...

The females were ready to fly when CharnBat first realized that it was in fact somewhat odd to have bonded two dragons instead of merely one. When someone commented that she could only ride one at a time, she pointed out that she could hardly ride either, unless she was practically strangling them with her coiled body. It is all right, rider, we're happy with you anyway. Vemmel snorted aloofly and opened her arms to catch the strong wind they would ride. Yes, Halasca added, what do they know? But CharnBat did want to have the thrill of riding. It looked as though Vemmel would be a bigger dragon if not by very much. Always the instigator, Vemmel slipped into the air and quickly began taunting her sister. Halasca, not to be outdone, figured out the best path to take to surprise her sister. They were chasing each other in circles in the air, in no time at all. With their twisting, spiraling and rolling antics, it was almost a relief to CharnBat that she hadn't opted to ride them this time out. Since she was quite small compared to the dragons, when they were a little older Charnbat did habitually ride either of them. It was when they were almost ready to return to Zekira that they prodded her into doing something remarkably dangerous and terrifying. Come along - come on, you can do it, we won't let you fall! We know the winds now, they are just perfect! Gulping, CharnBat the shy, secretive and elusively spontaineous ferilon lept from Vemmel's shoulders with a powerful spring of her naga-like hindparts. She flew through the air, chilled and wide-eyed, and then saw Halasca's grassy glimmering hide sweep below her. Her long tail caught Halasca by the shoulder, and she wound up wrapped almost twice around the slender neck of the Hathian! You did it! See! You could do it! We shall have such fun showing off at home! Since CharnBat's few gathered things (some furs, a drinking mug someone made her, traded shiny stones and the like) were all settled in a pack on Vemmel's back, CharnBat decided, "I think we should go ... and we'll see if I ever do that trick again!" Her heart was pounding - and then she remembered... She was immortal. She could fall, and yes, she'd be hurt. But she would not die from it. Indeed, they spent hours upon arrival to the Zekiran ruins where only Thoihra and his massive blue watched on, tossing their rider into the air and catching her...
