Though his skin was dark, his hair was darker - a trait which surprised many of the people he met. Elves that were dark, and had that pale hair, were usually considered bad luck and humans - and elves alike - avoided them. Perhaps he did have a lot of dark-elf blood in him. He didn't know, and frankly didn't care.

What was in the past, he reasoned, was past and could not be changed. If his parents, or grandparents (whom he had never met), or some other generation had mixed with the 'bad blooded' elves, who cared? If he himself had fancied one or another of the ebony-skinned beauties?

He knew very well there was another dark-haired drow child out there. And a pointed eared half human boy with a penchant for assembling clever toys. And probably at least three fully elven kids that he'd sired. These days, there weren't enough elves as it was.

Those humans - they were short lived and populated everywhere that the elves usually had claimed for themselves. The only place they wouldn't likely go were the depths where the drow lived, or the aeries of the sky elves. And the only reason for that was because both of those groups fought fiercely for their territory.

Ivano felt more at home in the underground lairs than up on the tops of mountains, but being brought up in the gentle hills of his home country and surrounded by wooded glades hadn't made him the way he was. Where he truly felt at home was on the road - between cities. Big cities bothered him a bit, but the newly made ones, those which had culture and history but not so many booming markets and crowded pestilent streets? They were awesome places indeed, whether human or elfin.

It often made him wonder that elves had taken up creating cities for themselves. Perhaps it was a sign to the humans that they wanted their share of the world to remain theirs. The only way to compete was to claim it the same way?

He didn't care. Ivano was used to walking paths laid down by both species.

Ivano walked along one of the powerful ley lines from his world into ... well, another. He wasn't at all sure how this happened, because he wasn't even trying to dimension-skip. That was a skill common to his 'breed' - that is to say, the dopple-sangers. Where he was, a dragonry. It was busy, but oddly empty at the same time. This was an unusual event apparently.

How he could have possibly passed up the incredibly gorgeous and very slinky Seticeth, he didn't know. He would never have forgiven himself for leaving the hatchling, creeling and adorable, for what he saw wasn't just a new form of dragon... he saw adventure and potential. The dragon would be large, big enough to ride - and that meant travel was so much easier!

Ivano eventually learned how odd his dragon was, even among dragon kind. The other Sangers marveled at how a reasonably full-sized dragon like this could have possibly been sired by a teeny tiny Saa... Whatever that was! Colorful, he found - but he liked the colors on his beloved bond just perfectly.

So now... Now almost any world with magic - or without - could be found. He vastly preferred the former!
